Does it function differently?

Yeah but that is terrible advice to give to someone who already doesn’t know what he’s doing.

Not really a good reason to do that over buying a correct $40 MC
I wasn't "advising" anyone to use that particular part - I was sharing that I (as you also do) did not rip apart the dash. I happened to install the early MC. I also didn't say it was better to do this - I would agree that if I hadn't already had this part, then I'd have just bought the later one. You asked why I did it - I replied. The mounting bolts don't line up (to the dummy holes in the plate) so it doesn't "look" right when your head is under the dash. It's not a big deal.

In the big picture of actual terrible advice that gets thrown around on the internet, this is pretty low on the spectrum.

Back off.

I’m learning.

My big problem is these don’t line up and I can’t figure out why??

None of the holes line up, I thought they were the same other than the ones for the clutch master?

They do line up. It’s tricky unless you gut the whole dash. I would highly recommend doing that.

But as we are saying the clutch master hole pattern is not going to be the same.

All of this information is already on this forum and has been for +15 years. It was all there when I did the same project when I was your age ad had similar amount of experience (almost none).

I already searched. Didn’t find much.

Did you use search function on here if so it sucks do a Google search @cruisermatt knows what he is talking about has a shop and does these swaps take his advice or not. Good luck
Tommy

Yes I know Crusier Matt knows his stuff, but I don’t see how it even matters, if you use a pre ‘85 just drill holes where the master needs to be.

Why drill holes when Toyota made a part to 'fit' your truck?

Because the PO of my parts truck already modified it work on ‘85 and later models.

Got it done.

Not super hard, not recommended to do by yourself, it helps a lot when a 2nd person is there to hold the steering column.

Also, an ‘84 bucket totally works, but you just have to drill a few extra holes. Totally worth it.
