valid question. i think the split case is up to the task. i have one in my vortec'd 80 behind the 4L60E. the conversion was done 60k miles ago. i dd the cruiser but it does'nt get to wheel much. one place i do take it off road is pismo and i'm NOT kind to it there. lots of fun in 2wd and it sees redline more than occasionally. so far, so good.:steer:

The split case (small idler shaft) on my 60 (5.3 Vortec) has been fine for the 70k miles my swap has been done also. I have rebuilt it a few times due to silly stuff happening like needing to replace the t-case tranny seal, and wrecking it, but it has been fine otherwise. I've never seen anything wrong with it. I too have not been kind to it. LOTS of hard driving, lots of bouncing off of redline in the desert, snow, dry pavement, wet pavement, and Drag races from lights. I even went through a phase where It was fun to do burn outs with the 35's, but the clutch didn't really like it so it kinda quit grabbing that well after a while. It still grabs great, just not quite like it did. Anyways, the T-Case (and H55 for that matter) has held up pretty well.

Great data, thanks guys! The reason that I ask is that the 5.3 + blower is probably right around the crank torque of the 6.2 erod motor (the LS3/L99). Although expensive, that package is very tempting from a completeness and smog perspective (and easy of installation, I just finished reading the install guide, which is pretty complete). I was just interested if the split case and axles would survive behind that. Sounds like it isn't out of the question.

the erod would be a sweet setup, but imho, there's such a thing as too much power. a standard 5.3 works out really well in a 60.

that having been said, the erod isn't cheap at $8k, but you do get a lot with it, including a factory warranty and everything is brand new.

i'd leave that one for a hot-rod, not a wheeler.

A 5.3 erod is in the pipeline. It is listed on the erod site but doesn't have an gmpp number yet...

it's up and running, still needs a little tweaking but at this point it's been reliable and very driveable.

had to put a new fan clutch in. luckily we still have enough room even with the tight engine compartment. changing the clutch took all of ten minutes. :)

hoping to take it to the ref in about ten days after i get the last electrical issue figured out and some more time on it.

IM A BIT LATE ON THIS ONE BUT.....HOLY CRAP THAT IS A COOL OPTION...BLOWER!!!!

I am presently swaping a 5.3 and looking for a ranger torque spiltter to put in front of the toyota tranny making it an easy conversion and allowing for a h55f in the future.
That rig looks great!

well, the rig finally went home to it's rightful owner. i just talked to him and the maiden voyage was a trip to yosemite natinal park. so far, so good and he's happy with it. that's what counts. i'm sure he'll be posting pics since he's a member on here.

thanks again peter!!!!!

Could you PM me the cost of this conversion? I have a Vortex 5.3 LS1 off a 2004 Silverado motor. I looking for assistance on mounts and installation of the motor.
