hey rob.
in this case, it was just about impossible to mount the intercooler in front of the rad. so to help things out, we're going to build a custom shroud ( not looking forward to that one cause it'll be a major pita ) and we're going to tun the oem fan setup. these things move tons of air. if all of that does'nt keep the blower cool enough, then we'll switch to plan B. but i'm confident it'll work.

Gottcha, Looks like a sweet build.

Awesome build. If your customer doesn't like the Magnacharger, have him send it to me and I'll put it on my G8 lol.

I cannot imagine what this 60 is going to feel like.

This is an awesome build, but I have to ask?

Yotas are pretty much bullet proof reliable. Slow, fuel eating' tractors, but run forever:lol:

With that said, what is the reliability factor in your opinion, of this motor with the blower setup?

How functionsl off road or is this mainly a mall crawler?

Please don't misunderstand the question:(

I'm just curious?

Thanks, tracking this one closely:cheers:

no offense taken. why is he having me build this?! because he can.

this rig is not going to see a whole lot of offroad action. it'll be used as a part time driver and to go from the wine growing region of northern CA up to lake tahoe. he wants to be able to do so "at a decent speed". the 2F had expired, and the vortec swap had been planned for a while. the blower was an afterthought. it's suppposed to put out 450hp on pump gas and from what i've seen, they're very reliable. the engine we installed only has 14k miles on it, so it's just broken in. the blower is fairly mild mannered, not very aggressive. the owner is not a pump kid and i don't think he'll be beating the crap our of it. he's fully aware of how much power he has on tap.........

and yes, it'll be a lot of fun to drive. can't wait to smoke some jackass in a lowered honda. :grinpimp:

Great Build!

With the line "coolers" installed, how are they going to work? Great location but if you are leaving the bottom splash guard on and a fan shroud installed, how will they get any air?

Is there a finish date in mind? You gonna let FC take it to the 45 Run or something to field test it?

LOL

This is a great build. Gen III/IV motors seem to love superchargers. Couple of questions/comments:

  1. That looks like a regular downflow radiator - did I miss something? I thought that crossflows have tanks on the sides?
  2. My Ron Davis rad cracked at the top seams inside of 8,000 miles. When I talked to Ron Davis they said that they have been having problems retrofitting aluminum radiators into copper/brass locations because the mounts don't flex enough. They want to see at least a 1/2" of movement with the rad bolted in. Not sure if that was BS or not. They said MAF had developed special mounts. I never looked into this because I went back to copper/brass (I had a lot of trouble originally with my Ron Davis rad; seems atypical for the company, but I was done with them).
  3. Won't the intercooler suffer from a lack of cooling by seeing air off the hot side of the rad?
Looking forward to seeing this run!

...because he can... Thats the best reason ever:D

After I asked the question I went back and read the rest of the thread and found most of the answers. Felt like a jackazz:grinpimp:

thanks for the kind response. I'm guessing he won't have any issues keeping up with the rest of traffic....would love to see the look on the dropped honda drivers face should that happen!

Can you imagine telling your friends your snappy little rocket was beaten by...well....a BRICK!:lol:

trying to complete the ac install, running into a few road-blocks. i was working with one ac shop and got the run-around for a couple of weeks so i ended up going somewhere else. great work, done when promised and progress is being made. the 60 did not have factory ac so we're installing a mixture of oem, gm and custom parts.

bout time i finish this thread. the cruiser is pretty much done. runs and drives great after some additional tweaking. it had been sitting for 3 years so a few small gremlins crept up but nothing that could'nt be fixed without too much trouble.

end result, this thing hauls ass! and then some.......and it sounds really cool above 1/4 throttle. you can definetly tell there's something going on under the hood. but when just cruising along, it looks like a total grocery getter and does'nt sound obnoctious. SLEEPER! :steer:

a few more pics of the finished project. yes, the hood closes and everything clears. barely.

according to magnussen, 450hp at the crank. i'm running it on super unleaded and it feels solid. have'nt burried my foot in the carpet yet, need to let the trans go thru it's paces and everything else needs to settle in as well. lots and lots of new components and systems so i have to check and re-check things constantly. so far, so good.

I bet that truck sounds really nice under a load pushing north of 4K... My 5.7 vortec is alittle loud...single magnaflow muffler dual in / dual out... , but when you have to get on the gas at times its all worth it. A supercharger would be nice to say the least. How's cooling?

Nice clean setup and layout on the truck and parts. I imagine that the truck will be a "sleeper" for the rice rockets and local hot rod types....very cool.

yup, it sounds great under load. my 80 has a vortec 5.7 in it. mellow when you're cruising but sounds great when you put your foot into it. had it at SNT and ran it in 2wd most of the time with it between half throttle and fully pinned. good times! dual in, single out magnaflow stainless. same setup on this 609 but with 3" single out. my 80 is 2.5"

Looks sick! Whens the smaller pulley going on? :grinpimp:
