mechanic pointed out that the alternator currently in the vehicle is the "wrong" alternator, previous owner had something rigged up. How do I determine if the alternator I need has an "internal or external regulator / fire wall mount" ?

It should be internal. I've never had a 60 with an external regulator.

How early? I'm guessing 40s changed at the same time? The earliest 60 I've owned was an 82. I think it was made in 11/81 IIRC.

Thanks for the info! Do the alternators you have available include the regulator and pulley? Do I need to have the alternator rebuilt? Thanks again for any and all info!!!

that was what I was thinking late 79 for sure has internal regulator on 40's and 55's, I had an early 81 60 and it was internal.
