BTW, I just found a source for rebuild kits other than Specter.

Cost is ~ $55.00 shipped. I have one on order, if it works well, I'll be posting up.

Good writeup. Question for anyone who might know, though: Are the PS gearboxes the same between 60s and 62s? I've wanted to do this for quite some time for when I eventually lift my rig and put larger than 31" tires on it.

I wonder if the PS pump mod procedure is the same between both trucks too, now that I think of it...

There are 2 different bolt patterns on the mounting flange. The internals are the same.

I have a redneck ram rebuilt and ported fj60 box on my 62. Bolted up fine.

Mace is right... there are two different bolt patterns but I'm not sure its 60/62 specific. I think there are some 60 boxes that have a different bolt pattern. The difference is slight but enough to throw it off.

I use this ram Surplus Center Item Detail

They also have pre-made lines . I like their single wire, 1/4" NPT ends, and the 36" long lines are usually good.

Lately I've been buying bulk hose with re-usable ends from Discount Hydraulic Hose.com . Their re-usable ends are not really any cheaper than other places but I can't find anyone who can touch their price on hose.

yeppers, surplus center is the way to go. As are bulk hoses and reuseable fittings. Easy to keep a length of spare hose in the truck as a spare then.

IIRC the difference in mounting patterns is on the 85 model year. THey both have a 4 bolt pattern. only one is slightly differnt. I have both boxes if you want a comparison of the two...

80 series also have the same box..

Any word on these kits? Need to pull a steering box apart for tapping and it would be nice to throw some new seals at it...

Just pulled my old box apart and compared the seals. Looks great!

John V has the PS box rebuild kits. Kit contains all the seals snap rings and O rings necessary, but it does not have the bearings. Mine seem good still.

Send him an e-mail and tell him Jason Mace sent ya.

before you do that let me work some things out. It looks like the Teflon seals are just a tad too large.

Any way to document the change over date for the posterity of the thread? I sure lucked up 4-5 years ago when Dearborn delivered a steering box 5 hrs in order for me to participate in a ride. Sure glad it wasn't an early FJ60 box.
