PSA for y'all as I had been searching for an OEM replacement Hood Insulator for some time..looked for quite a while and shipping was simply ridiculous

Insulator Part Number was 53341B and New Part Number is: 5334190A00 $207.82
Retaining Clip (17 required) Part number was 53341C and New Part Number is: 9046709014 $1.10
Shipping from Lakeland Toyota in Florida to me here in CT: $25.95

It always strikes me as odd the parts that are still available vs those that aren't. This is one of those cases.

Thanks!

Just FYI, I tried to order the insulator from Lakeland Toyota last week, and they would not ship it. Said local pickup only, that the insulator is too fragile to ship...YMMV

Well, if it seems to good to be true, it usually is. Thanks for heads up.

I will say I've had decent experience getting parts from Lakeland. Their prices seem cheaper than other Toyota dealers, and with the exception of the insulator, have not had any other issues with them.

I’m curious, because I might be misinterpreting your initial comments from the OP.
Do you think shipping from Florida to CT for $26 is too much?

Ha, no. That shipping cost is a deal by anyone’s standards. SOR wants $282 on shipping alone from CA to CT.

I’m assuming I will get an email shortly saying they won’t ship, hence it’s too good to be true.

Phew! Glad you were thinking like that. Here in B.C. Canada, shipping is way higher than in the lower 48.
Damned rats got into my hood liner, I even brought one into the shop didn’t realize he was hiding in there.
it’s a mess. Maybe I should contact Lakeland and see about shipping to Blaine WA.

I bought one a few years ago going through the local Toyota dealership. They told me with these being relatively fragile they won't ship to a person's house, but most Toyota parts departments will order it for you...would think its still the same situation today if they still have them in stock.

So what’s the best way to transport these things if they are so fragile? I have a friend 40 minutes from Lakeland who is willing to pick one up for me but then how should I have it brought out to Colorado? She does drive here from time to time, but I’m not sure that will work out

I don't really see them being that fragile if handled individually. Mine was in a cardboard box, packaged well and was fine when I picked it up. I guess they're just worried with the number of packages handled at UPS, FedEx, etc that they'd get damaged being processed. If your friend would pick it up I'd be 100% confident it would be fine...just have him look at it before signing for taking it.

Recently contacted my local Toyota dealership and they said they could get it to the store, out the door for $280.

Another vote for whoever your local dealer is. I paid $346 from my local Toyota dealership for the insulator (want to say that was $280-ish) and all new OEM clips. Had to wait a couple days for them to get it in stock but shipping was free! Seemed to be the cheapest way to do OEM. Still the only thing I’ve bought from an actual Toyota dealer for my FJ60.

I bought mine from the local Toyota dealer (around $200.00). Took them a few days to have it shipped in. No big deal.

I have bought several pieces/parts from the local dealer.

Picked mine up locally last month from the dealer for 220.00 with all the clips - picking it up from the dealer means they’re on the hook if it’s delivered to them broken, good luck getting a shipping company to owe up to it.

it fits in the rear boot over the seat easily, just don’t put anything heavy on top of it. I’m really happy with mine

Thanks all - have placed an inquiry with both local Toyota Parts desks. We'll see what they say - would definitely prefer to pick up locally if possible.

Also - I didn't see this topic as a sticky up top when searching.

Apparently this shouldn’t be folded according to parts person. So it has to be either shipped in a large box the size of the insulator (guessing 3.5x4.5’?), or draped in the back of a car to transport. Hmmmm. Wish my local dealership didn’t charge a premium.

Edit: $319 at my local place

Your dealership is charging you MORE than published Toyota MSRP which is $290.48

I'd inquire as to why they are "escalating price" on you.

That sucks.
