And the winner is PartSouq, quoting $109 for the part and $382 for shipping. Imagine the shape this hood-size box and insulator would be in after travelling half way around the world?

Just saw this thread and figured I would bring it to life since I just replaced mine. $129 from partsouq. Shipping the the us was about $150. Came quickly, boxed and had wood boards taped to both sides. Arrived in perfect condition. Also, I ordered 19 of the plastic tabs to hold it in for about $14

I've got my new insulation piece ready to fit once the car is back from the paint shop. How do these things fail? Does the heat cause the material to deteriorate over time, or does it just come from mechanical damage?

just get old after 40 years most things start to break down
heat doesn't help either

Made one in Egypt, thermal layers + fiber .... cost around $60
