I got a FJ40 with Fj60 front and rear axles right now. Plan on keeping my front fj60 axle and installing a 14bolt C&C rear axle I have. Its about 63.5" WMS and my Fj60 is 58.5 + 3" space = 61.5" Why a 14bolt rear? I have a sm465 and a dana 300 I plan on putting in, so will need a center diff to match. I have never ran a rear axle wider then the front, It has always been a little wider in front. So my question is, will it be a bad Idea?

Heavy and loss of ground clearance. Unless you need the strength there are easier ways to center the rear axle. A hybrid built with a IFS rear should be close to the same width as your 60 front.

It will be fine. I am running a full width rear 14B and will still have the stock front of the orange bitch. I am however running different wheel backspacing. Currently my rear sits a half inch wider on each side than the front, not enough to even see, and it will be like that till I can get my D60 up front.

Dont listen to the nay sayers on the 14B being heavy and low clearance.
ANY 1 ton rear is gonna be heavier than a cruiser rear.
Honestly you are only loosing about an inch or so of ground clearance out back when in stock form. but with the strength you can easily run tires to make up for it or even do a little or a lot of shaving. if you do the ballistic fab shave kit you will have MORE ground clearance than the cruiser axles with the same tires.

I have an FJ60 front and a 14 bolt C&C rear. I love the 14 bolt rear. Mine are under an FJ60. I put six lug to eight lug adapters on the front that are 2" wide and the front and rear are very close to the same width. I shaved the 14 bolt and ended up with the same amount of ground clearance as the original 60 rear axle had. Did the disk brake conversion on the 14 bolt and upgraded the MS to 1" and have much better brakes than the stock 60 had.

I think the front FJ60 axle is 60" the rear is 57". So running 1.5" spacers up front should put you about 63" which is only .5" less the the 14B. I am currently running FJ60 axles f/r ans with 1.5 spacers on the back the axles and tires are the same width front and rear.

I was thinking of running a ifs hybrid rear axles, seems simple and already have a rear fj40 axle housing.
Only problem I see my 3rd are still course

gotta pic .?

how much ground clearance you have in front and how much in the rear .?

Just curious, but why dont more people run fj80 rear axles?

the 80's rear end are expensive, 14 bolt you can find them everywhere dirt cheap!

I did the 40 front w/ adapter from 6 to 8 lug, which is way narrow then the fj60 and the 14 bolt!

it was still small but it was fine! now the 14 was wide and low, I am running 37's and it was digging ditches, but It can take the abuse!

What he said, not to mention the FF FJ80 axles wouldnt be happy with 40"+ rubber on them. I considered the swap to stay "all cruiser / Toyota" but found it was not worth it. I have already stripped the splines off of one of my 30 spline Longfield inner axles where it slides into the birf and taken out multiple cruiser rear axles shafts without even trying. Wasnt worth the risk and frustration of continued failures.
