so I'm needing to replace the front crank seal on my sons 85. It has 340k on the odometer and this bolt has never been off. Ended up bumping the starter against a 1/2" breaker bar. Snapped the tip right off. It's soaking with some PB Blaster and I plan on getting a 3/4" bar for tomorrow. Curious if anyone has other suggestions. I will use my small propane bottle to heat the nut before my next starter attempt.

impact gun? I had 1 one time I needed to use my 3/4" gun to get it broke loose, usually 1/2" gun does the trick

Any reason you can't heat it?

I did heat it for about 3 min and then pulled with an extension bar. Did not heat before using the starter but will tomorrow. Also used my sons snap on 1/2" impact with no luck. Don't think it has enough Tourque. Hopefully my ingersoll 2535TI will be here tomorrow. Had to send it in for some work after I did a tune up kit on it. Turned out I put the vines in backwards. I plan on getting a 3/4" breaker bar tomorrow as well.

you need the BFH version of a 5 foot cheater bar to go with a 3/4 breaker bar and get the thing off the ground on a lift.

I'm glad this part is behind me. Have not looked up the torque spec, but imagin my 150 foot pound wrench won't cut it. Like the rear main seal, I'm certain this front one has never been changed. It was extremely brittle and the cover gasket is basically like a ceramic gasket stuck to the block. I mentioned above this rig has 340K miles on it. A two owner truck with documented history. Compression averaged 120-125 across all cylinders. I'm truly amazed at the condition of it. Hopefully this will be the end of the oil leaks :)

Yup, I used a 4 foot section of pipe over my wrench handle sticking up above the left fender. The feeling of it letting go was awesome. Three days of PB prior too as well. It wasn't hard for me but I also found I had no key in the keyway (my nut had been spot welded on too, I cut through it with a dremel). It pretty impressive to see those gears upclose huh? Fingers crossed on my seal as well, I put a new one in too.

I lift them off the ground with the bar touching the concrete, then drop them slowly and let gravity spin the breaker bar.
