I have a stock 1984 FJ60 smogged 2F and noticed fuels seepage on the carb.

Is this cause for concern and indicates the need for service/overhaul?

If so, what is the recommended shops to send the carb into? Not interested in fuel injection or carb swap/de-smog.

Thanks!

That thing always ends up leaking at some point. It’s the secondary slow cut valve. None of those parts are available, including the rubber boot. There’s a post somewhere about how to remove the plunger and plug it very carefully with a bolt.

Or just drive it.

As stated, that Secondary Slow Cut Valve thing is long time 'No Longer Available'. It's specific to these USA-spec smog carbs. Is the leakage dangerous? Depends on how much fuel is weeping out. I personally don't want any fuel seeping around the engine compartment, particularly above the exhaust manifold, even if just for the smell - Valve can be capped with a cut- 8mm bolt and some JB Weld to stop the leakage, as I did in the picture below. There are other, more detailed threads on how to do it.

Mark's Off Road can fix this as part of a rebuild. Mark may even have a working replacement Slow Cut Valve. Dunno. Best to call him, 818-953-9230, for particulars. His turn-around is pretty fast for an active Grandpa :p LINK

This is not something I'd trust to a local carb shop.
