I am new to the forum but have been a cruiser driver for more than 10 years. From an FJ 40, two 80s and my current LX 470 (really a FJ 100 on steriods) to my latest project, an FJ 60 that is powered by a FJ 74 drive train Stickboy created and wrote about here several years ago. Great rig, my son and I flew to Spokane and drove it to NC. Lots of potential, needs some help with appearance but the core vehicle is exactly what I wanted and was an upgrade that is truly outstanding. Anyway, the help I need includes:

Advice on a rear bumper that is reasonably priced, and much stronger than the stock bumper. (Provided we can get the shipping worked out, I have purchased an ARB for the front bumper.)

Advice on running board/side rub bars, such as, will a stock FJ Cruiser set of running boards work on an FJ 60? what aftermarket suppliers are out there you have used that you prefer, again, reasonably priced. . .

I am also looking for a set of used but still very servicable Michelins 275 70 16's, 4 or 5.

Also, do you know of a supplier for a replacement carpet for one of these vehicles?

I live in central NC and drive to Chapel Hill or Raleigh most days.

Thanks in advance for your assistance, also, if you are interested, my FJ40 is for sale on ebay at: eBay Motors: Toyota : Land Cruiser (item 190234514857 end time Jul-11-08 16:00:00 PDT)

Hi,

Welcome!

Rear bumper - Man-a-Fre, Slee, and SROR all have rear bumpers. These can get expensive though, depending on whether you're trying to add a swing-away tire carrier, fuel carriers, etc.

Sliders - SROR, Slee, Marlin, all carry sliders for 60's. They are different from the ones for FJ Cruisers.

Tires - look in the for sale section. Do you have 16" rims? 60's came stock in NA with 15" rims.

Replacement carpet - nobody I know of has found a decent replacement.

Lots of stuff can be found by using search, lots of pics for example of rear bumpers, sliders, etc. Many of which were custom fabbed. Given shipping costs, this might be a good option for you.

yep, what ski said.

SROR (Solid Rock Off Road, Colorado) for your armor (bumpers, sliders) needs.

SOR (Spectre Off Road, California) for $$$ stuff, including 'replacement' carpet.

CruiserDan (New Mexico) for Mud-priced OEM stuff.

Surf the FJ60 registry for ideas on bumpers.

Thanks F/U

First of all, thanks for the comments.

I have reviewed most of the classifieds related to the tires and other items. Also, thanks for the tips on the bumper and side protection. Part of our problem is there is less support on the east coast, a couple of good shops but most of the larger suppliers seem to be from Colorado west. Oh well, if anyone reads this post either on the east coast or has a particular used part they want to sell related to the needs stated, either send me a pm or post here, I'll be checking in from from time to time. Thanks for the compliments on the FJ 40. I hate to part with it but as my wife would say: it is ok to have a new toy (but not another one!) I have talked to several today who are interested in giving it a good home. So, time to start the work on the 60.

Two other things, I have a set of 15 and a set of 16" wheels. I am going to stay with the 16's on this truck so I can interchange tires from time to time if needed. Also, the registry is a great idea, thanks, lots of great looking rigs there.
