Has anyone ever installed a FJ55 front floor mate into their FJ40? Over the years I have never come across factory floor mate in a pre 73 FJ40. Today I found a FJ55 floor mate from a earlier FJ55 with a floor shift three speed. Looks like it might trim down and fit in a FJ40. Has anyone done this?

i havent done it but i do have one in my 71 fj55 and one in my 73 FJ40 ..

Curious did your 71 have a floor shift or column shift? If it has column shift are the holes for the shifters solid like the PTO opening?

P.O put a 4 speed in it ... on the floor

it can probably be made to fit with some creative cutting/notching

the humps are different shapes and depths, also I think the floor board is larger from hump to door in a 55.

Looks pretty tidy. You could probably cut it in, but it may be worth more to you if you sell it to a Piggy owner. John

I agree...you should put it in the 55 classified section. SOmeone will buy that up. I paid 70 bux for a similar one awhile back for my pig.

No way would I sell the mate but I would consider selling the mat.

Note to self don't start a new thread late in the evening when you been up since early morning.

Thanks Steve for fixing it. Mat no problem my mate no way. She has been to good to me.

Are the square holes at the bottom stock for the FJ55? I went to check out the rear heater to see if it was a two speed. It was already gone but only single wire so single speed. The mat was a after thought. I had to crawl thru the back to fold the rear seat up the mat was laying in the back covered in dust. Once I saw the heater was gone I didn't go any further to see what the holes were for.

I think the square holes on the driver side are for the jack mount??

haven't noticed if it's all floormats, but most that i've seen are "marked" for pto cutouts, but they aren't always cut in the mat. you can see the mark in the pic

correct. other side is for the tool bag, and the middle is for the heater lines to pass from underneath the floormat to on top of the floor mat.

My real question is did Toyota install these rubber mats into early column shift FJ55 and if so were the pattern for the floor shifter still there and not cut out. My 76 FJ40 not only has the solid PTO space but a solid transfer case opening since it's was a proto type and the transfer case shifter is on the left side.

I figure I have three options with this mat

1 install it into my original 1970 FJ40 in which case I could install a floor shifter using a factory transmission cover I already have.

2 install it into my 1973 FJ40 soft top I plan on fixing up and selling.

3 just sell the mat to a FJ55 owner in which case how much is worth? it has a tear by the transfer shifter and the transmission opening is wider but the piece that made it wider is still attached. I wouldn't have picked this mat up except it was still flexable, which surprised me for how old it is.

Not positive, but my '70 FJ55 came with an OEM floormat, just like the one you have, and it was a column shift pig. The mat had the holes marked for PTO, floor shifter, etc but none of it was cut out. When I upgraded to a floor shift I cut the mat to serve my needs. It works/looks great! :)

Newbie here but I'd go for door #3. I saw $70 earlier in this thread and I'd gladly pay $75 plus shipping for my '73 FJ55.

What he said. That's what I discovered with the 55 mat I fitted to the FJ45 years ago. I sold the cut down mat to someone else on the forum after I pulled the trigger on the 4 speed.

lenwaters, have you tried looking in the 55 classifieds section? I have a full set of mats for sale over there. This is the tech section.

Best
