Are they marked on the outside so that you can tell what diameter they are?

I just recently did the brakes on my 45... I replaced the fronts with new, since they are available, but I rebuilt the rears. I have photos if you need.

So are you saying that 285 R should measure what your caliper is showing?
Correct,
diameter is 28,5 front & rear cylinders (1972 built FJ45LPB) that´s what I wrote down in 2007....
....now a pic of a front wheel cylinder. Yesterday picture was from a rear cylinder

When I bought the can in 2006 one of the rear cylinder leaked a bit ... had some rust in it.
Honend the cylinder in 2007 worked fine until 2016
In 2016 the can got new ones all around.
All pics are from 2007

Forgotten. even in 2007 these cylinders for my 72 can were disconnected.....by Toyota.
Got new ones from Australia in 2016.

My motto.... try to repair first .....
....you can enjoy all these old cans without throwing senseless money in.;)

Thanks Seth, what year is your 45? What size is unavailable?

I agree with your motto. My truck is a ‘67. I have read different things about the diameters of these cylinders. Some say they are the same size front and rear. Some say fronts are different than the rears.

Mine is a 1967. According to Specter, they only have the rear rebuild kits which allowed me to rebuild the 4 rear wheel cylinders. The fronts were a match to FJ40 wheel cylinders, and I just bought new ones instead of rebuilding.

And just to clarify, when I say “rear”, I mean all 4 wheel cylinders on the rear axle. The “fronts”, or 4 front axle wheel cylinders, are currently available new.

Before I went disc front, I did all four corners of my 45. The front cylinders have 1" bores and the rears have 1.25" bores.

I pulled the RH rear front cylinder. It is the leaking one.. it has a ‘1’ and a ‘R’ cast into it. My calipers read just under a inch inside diameter.

The cups, one side has Seiken SC-47601R 38 1-H cast into it. The other side has Seiken SC-47601R 28 cast into it. Bore measures around .950”. So is it a 7/8” bore that’s worn out? Is it the correct cylinder to begin with? I only pulled the one cylinder. The rear cylinder (rear passenger side) is not even hooked up with a hydraulic line. What size cylinders should be on a ‘67 lob?

I’m at the shop right now, so I’ll pull a wheel and drum in the rear and see what I have. My rears x4 were all the same, if I recall. Back in 15 or so with some photos.

I’m not sure if these photos will be much help. Turns out you can’t see much once these wheel cylinders are in place. As far as I can tell, these are the original rear wheel cylinders for an FJ45 because they were what was here when I opened things up and rebuilt them.

It’s possible they have been changed, I suppose, but the rear cup kits from Specter worked.

Thanks for the effort. Your pics do show the “R” on one of the cylinders. My research tells me my cups out of the one cylinder I took apart are for 1 inch bores. But my ID of the bore is more like .950”.
