Finally got a roll bar in the 45. My specs were that it fit inside the top, allowed me to retain the stock windshield latches, operate the wing windows, not inerfere with the ignition, or the operation of the clutch AND clear the stock fuel filler. For those of you with one of these, you know how tight the cab area is...this was not an easy task. I also wanted it to be removable. I got everything I wanted except the removable part. I was out of town when my buddy started working on it. He couldn't get in touch with me to let me know he couldnt' get it to be removable, so he just welded it in. I was kinda dissappointed but again, I probably would never have pulled it out.

It's made out of .120 wall inch and a half DOM tubing. Tubing cost me $135, it took two full 20 foot sticks and labor to bend it, weld it and install it was $385. Not too bad an investment.

My wife dosn't like it, she thinks "it's too racey." I like the look of the 45 with out it too, but this makes more sense if I'm gonna be wheeling. Now I have a spot to mount a shoulder belt too.

Dan,

Came out nice. Maybe put a radio / cb mount up top also now out of site and the elements.

Looks great. Funny - when you posted a pic of your rig in Darin's thread yesterday I was thinking about you not having a cage in it when you are out wheeling.

Looks really cool.

In my truck, if I lost 2-3" of 'move the seat back space' my knees would be in my chest. That is the one drawback of the 45, it is so cramped in the cab. I do not find it uncomfortable as I have done a 10 hour drive and been OK, but there is no extra room for stuff. If I wheel with a passanger I need to store my spare shoes, gloves, sweater, thermos and munchies in the bed. It sucks in the winter. What kind of buckets fit without loosing any leg room? With buckets I could get a neat consol box thingy for between the seats.

I didn't lose any seat space. The seat backs hit the gussets, but that just makes me sit up straight, better posture...

If you look in a couple of those pictures you can see my 'pork-chop' box in the bed. Very awsome addition for storing tools, and stuff. It's a Weathergaurd, sealed, lockable and has a gas strut so it opens with one hand. I scored it at the local power company's salvage yard. They have a bunch of truck accessories off of thier old pick-ups for sale, cheap.

Nice cage, will the stock top still fit? Did you fab it with a pattern or just built it as you went. I need to build one for my 45 lwb.

Cheers,

Jim

Bent up a piece of conduit to make sure everything fit and so we didn't waste a piece of DOM, then built-as-we-went.

Yes, the top and doors still fit.

Did you drill holes in the body and mount the roll bar directly to the frame or use plates on either side of the body.

Cheers,

Jim

It's not braced down to the frame...yet.
