Believe 7/69-9/72 is the steering wheel you need. Earlier looks like it be have thirty six spline instead of thirty three. Later is a completely different steering wheel. I only have one steering wheel like that and it's part of a whole vehicle.

Thanks for the mention Paul. All my remaining stock of those steering wheels are paired with rebuilt steering boxes.😊

Thanks guys, I'll repair the cracks, the main crack on the hub radius from horn button to 3-on-tree shifter, it's is the biggest at about a quarter inch wide. I'll fill in the cracks with JB Weld epoxy, then smooth with light sanding after it dries. I was worried about the steering wheel failing and falling apart in my hands as i cruise down the road, and then having to use my super human strength on the steering wheel hub trying not to slam into street signs and trees as i come to a stop. Yikes

I am still on the look out for a 33 spline 1970 steering wheel. The nicer the better. So, if you hear of one , let me know.

Thank you for the pictures and the offer, but that is a newer steering wheel style than my 1970. Mine has the three spokes, the Toyota silver color horn button. I want to keep my FJ40 as original as possible. Thank you

Hmm. I counted the teeth and there were 33 of them so I figured this was the right one.

splines are the same, the wheel is not, as stated that is the later 72+ wheel
the OP needs the older style wheel with the newer spline count, it's a 2 or 3 year only wheel.

I checked the wheels I have, both would need refurbing as they both have cracks, strangely my earlier wheel is in good condition but the wrong spline count

I don't doubt your ability to steer with your bear hands on the hub, but do doubt the possibility of one of these actually failing. They seem incredibly stout, and have that steel core.

Ask @Ian Rogers. He broke two of the three spokes off the hub on Rubithon. There’s a pic somewhere with a combination wrench on the center nut, attached to the wheel with hose clamps!
