Hey everyone. I just joined the FJ40 community, having just bought a '72! It's my first Landcruiser and I'd like to take it somewhere and have an experienced guy give it a once over. Is there a reputable shop in the Seattle area? I know about TORFAB in Everett but I was hoping for somewhere a bit closer, even on the east side. Thanks!

Torfab is the only one. Unless you count bringing it to a Seattle Cruiserheads meeting and having a bunch of guys drinking beer give you an opinion. Our next one is at Shilshole, Sept 11, 6pm.

Join a Club,

I don't know the Seatle guys but have been in 3 different cruiser clubs and all of them have been great. Cruiserheads in general a different breed, they may pick your truck apart and then expain/help you to fix it.

Our local club has a moto penned by Rustydan, we will help you spend your money... Truly our local club has saved many members alot of money just with the knowledge base of what works and what doesn't. Local is better in that they are familiar with the local conditions and what effects cruisers there, also how to outfit for conditions in your area.. Also most clubs have loaner tools that are cruiser specific and club members who have extensive knowledge base and are willing to help (usually involves beer).

Ohh bring money to the first meeting as you will be buying beer.... lol..

Good luck and welcome to the addiction..

Torfab has done work on mine that I could not do and I would take it back without hesitation. Don’t waste your time taking it elsewhere.....

I agree with the Torfab recommendation. I took mine there last summer to do a bunch of odds and ends that I didn't feel like tackling. Worth the trip from the Eastside. Best to make a laundry list of issues, and just have everything done at once while it's there, because it's a busy shop and it might take a while to get to your project. When I eventually decide it's time for power steering, I'll have them do the conversion, knowing they've perfected the approach and have done it to numerous other trucks.

Torfab gets my vote too. Nothing else is closer or nearly as experienced. Join the Seattle Cruiserheads and you might even get a discount :).
