Hello,

My roof is back on with the new gutter and all.
My problem now is that there is no seal at the front top corners between the roof and the body corner.

Down the side of the roof, there is the long rubber that goes all round and on the windshield frame there is another rubber that goes across but there is nothing just in the corners.

How do I seal this?

Also, where the top tub bolts to the top body just next to the door handles, there is another small place (there is a step visible there) I can see through because there is no seal there either. What goes in that corner?

Am I missing some rubbers or did this seal with some sort of sealant?

Kind regards
Bernt

It's been a long time since I had an FJ40 with hard top, but I distinctly remember always seeing daylight through the two top corners. Any seal that would go there would be lost or destroyed every time you took the top off. I don't recall a gasket or seal where the roof post goes down into the body by the front door????

Take a look at Specter's page for the seals and gaskets for the hard top install. Looks like the top corner pad is part number 108-04. Lots of little bits and pieces that get lost when the hard top is removed. Good luck, Alan.

Havnt put 'em in yet. But yes - SOR 108-04

Hello and thank you very much.

It definitely didn't have anything like that there because I didn't loose anyting but I am not the first owner either...

So basically it needs a piece of neoprene rubber in those corners?

I may just go find something suitable in the local rubber shop since I don't think I will be able to buy those seals locally.

Unless: are those number Toyota part numbers?

Kind regards
Bernt

The rubber shop is a good idea. I got the gaskets as part of a kit from sor because I didnt get any gaskets/rubber seals on my truck but they seem pretty flimsy. Like Jim said they are kind of single use parts and I doubt they are from toyota a nice peice of neoprene would probably smash in there nicely.
good luck,
jeff

Hmm

The way that picture shows, does not look like they would actually seal the corner.
If they do go there, I would say they should maybe go the other way round like with the hole side between the roof and top of door (roof screw goes through that hole) and the thick part also on top but just in the corner?

Of course I am guessing...

Specter Off-Road-Land Cruiser Parts - Page 108-Hardtop & Side Panels - 40 Series

#1 is the front visor w/s, #4 is the w/s provided you have space left over from the #5 w/s. I replaced both #1 and #5 on my truck and i had no space left over so i did not end up using #4.

Jeffj40 : looks like you painted your hardtop w/s and part of it got ripped off. You could use that w/s there and i think thats where it goes but only horizontally. Really there is better rubber you can buy that would hold up more than the oem stuff you have there.

Thanks. So in your case, the 2 rubbers just meet in the corner and squash together, forming a seal that way?

As for the seal #7, for behind the door, that will not seal the vertical gap of about 1/4" between the door pillar rear and tub as that gap is just behind that seal. What goes there?

I am now thinking that in addition to the rubbers I may fit from the rubbershiop, this will need a tube of adhesive sealer as well
:-)

Thanks Okie. After looking more closely it does appear to have been ripped off. I guess it goes between the channel and folds down to fill the gap in the corner. Specter just sent me a box full of seals and weatherstripping I knew it went up there somewhere from looking at the diagram. Im sure Ill be using something else next fall when the top goes back on, pretty ***tty quality seal but it came with the kit.

Those pesky corners at the top of the windshield frame and the visor. I stuffed butyl tape from installing a vent on the toyhauler in those holes, and a few others. It works, but would like something a but more OEM looking down the road! 🤣

I'm a couple of weeks away from reinstalling my roof and I was under the impression that this part (108 -4) lays horizontally under the drip rail, on top or below the fiberglass weatherstripping (#5) and just behind the windshield . Does anyone have experience with this install. Here is the Specter diagram.

Thanks,

I can't seem to find a diagram of the over the door header but around 79 or 80 the design changed and had flange that cover the side of the windshield frame and used a separate weatherstripping piece to help seal it.

Believe it was my 77 top that has that rubber piece that keep the hood from rubbing on the drip rail. I put one on my 70 but it came off. Would recommend using a little silicone to hold it in place. Bought mine from a local dealer. Needed to be order but we're cheap enough bought a few.

Oh yeah, the other spot next to the door handles have a small gasket also-sor 108-07. Just make sure you put them on after youve set the top. Otherwise the poles that go into the tub will push them down the hole. (dont ask me how I know;))

I know this is a old post in a old thread that this poster seems to have left mud. The easy way to do this is install the gasket on the pipe and use a little tape if needed to keep it up tight to the hard side in the correct position.

For some reason when I captured the diagram it had #49 (the white rubber piece highlighted)...I'm not too concerned about it, but the idea of a little silicone to keep it their is a good idea. Thanks!!

The piece that I'm questioning is #4 and how is it installed?

Hey Rick, @GA Architect
Thanks for pointing me in that direction. So when you bought the two fill in pieces, were they made of the same material as the horseshoe rubber. The (#4) pieces I have are of the density in number #4 post above....a real soft foam. My LC is a "68, with what I assume is the original top and I have a new OEM horse shoe weatherstripping that goes right up to the windshield.

Thanks again,
