Vehicle Model
  1. 40 Series
One of my support towers cracked on my valve train. Im trying to source another, has anyone parted out a valve train for their 40?

Would really appreciate not having to replace the whole rocker assembly, Im getting weird valve lash cause of teh crack. ( For those wondering I was torquing a bolt and thats what popped it....)

Need one ASAP. Much appreciated.
Dan

And a year model. E-66, 67-80, 81&newer; three different stands.

Dan, you need to supply the year of your 40, assuming the engine is original. If it’s not original, then find the engine stamp on the passenger’s side of the block behind the distributor and give that number. The parts you need are specific to the different types and years of f engines.

Cheers,

Mike

That does look like an early 2F rocker arm assembly with the larger nuts on the rocker arms. You shouldn’t have too much trouble finding an assembly from a 60.

Respectfully disagree. That looks like a 60 stand to me. As I told Dan on the phone yesterday, it’s virtually unheard of for a 67-80 stand to fail, but more common with the earlier and the later.

Unfortunately I do not have loose stands for that vintage, only complete assemblies.

Dan, this is one of those classic cases where a picture is worth a thousand words.😉

I think they’re a 12.
More context for those who care and my thinking:
I’m getting low compression on the new motor, which sucks. Mechanic said it may be head gasket or incorrect valve seating/top end stuff from machine shop.

Compression after 450 miles on new motor:
Cylinder 1 - 140
Cylinder 2 - 125
Cylinder 3 - 130
Cylinder 4 - 123
Cylinder 5 - 135
Cylinder 6 - 135
The cracked rocker block is by cylinder 1 valve 2. Valves chatter clouds even after adjustment.

I’m *hoping* the cracked rocker assembly block is causing the valves to leak but it seems unlikely. I will say though valve clearance is not staying in one place. Those are old push rods on there as well.

I was gunna pay for a leak down test too, but a cruiser head has a $100 assembly I could throw on there and see if it cures the compression issue. (My whole point in buying a new rocker block/assembly)

Dan, do a 'wet' test. I just mentioned yesterday about QC piston ring issues. If numbers improve significantly, you will know you're chasing down the wrong rabbit hole.

And fwiw, if you can buy the correct rocker assy for $100, you should definitely jump on that.

@65swb45 so Dan needs a rocker assembly from a 61040 head?
or
is there a difference between an early 61040 assembly and a later 61040 assembly?

I've got some assemblies but not certain of the correct year of 61040 head

This is my big question.

I still have the assembly off an 83 fj60 that we spoke about last September too..
14 mm nuts...
SOR says 8/81-8/87
