my last thread was a bit misleading so basically I have an 80 series factory rack lying around and I mocked it up to the FJ40 and am thinking about puting it on, I would paint it black or white. Is there anyone else running with an 80 series factory rack on their FJ40, here are some pics I took sorry if they look bad but you get the picture. What do yall think?

weight will not be an issue I would just put a tree stand or surfboard, nothing to heavy, just big things that dont fit in the cab

Sounds like it would work extremely well for that.

use softrax or the old style alohas for a surfboard,the wind will rip that board to freedom and bumpbump it will go.....

get some cheap yakima/thule crossbars off craigslist or rock a conferr!

X2 on the soft rack. or some gutter mounts with cross bars.

Good point about drilling in that top. The old-style Yakima gutter mounts (1A ?) can be picked up cheaply ($40-50 for the 4).

Interesting upholstery in the 40.

I didnt pick the seat upholstery out although Ive grown to like it, its certainly better than this...
