made some more progress... some today, some over the last couple of weeks:

The front diff is back in the housing
The housing is sitting on the springs with the u-bolt flip kit
The springs have new fixed end pins and anti-inversion shackles with all new bushings
.

And some more:

The knuckle housing has new brass bushings installed
the hubs have new ARP hub studs (the old ones were buggered up)
I installed Heli-Coils in 2 of the brake caliper mounting holes that were "soft" when tightening down the calipers
.

Didn't follow the whole thread just curious if you used Newfields or Marlinfields in your build. Lots of work, I can appreciate the time you spent overhauling that baby. Good luck with the rest :)

Thanks!

No... stock axles and birfs for now. I'll switch to Longs if/when I start to wheel it hard.

I know it is not as exciting as CRUISE MOAB but... I drove the 40 around the block again today after all winter off the road. The front end is all back together. To summarize:

New springs (with new OEM pins)
Anti inversion shackles
ARB'd/4.56 geared front diff
U bolt flip kit
FJ60 knuckles w/ large pattern arms - rebuilt top to bottom
Trail Gear Rock rings and Longfield lifetime wipers
Marlin HD/double axle seals
FJ60 birfields
New rotors and wheel studs (+new lug nuts)
Rebuilt (by me, thanks Jon) calipers with new pads
ARP hub studs
New extended brake lines: frame to axle fitting and axle fitting to caliper
New pitman arm reamed (by 4+) to match custom hybrid GM 1 ton/FJ60 relay rod (made by 4+)
Shortened (by me) FJ60 tie rod
All new rod ends

More to do but it is getting there!

Mark

Pictures soon...

As it sits. Needs matching shackles in rear. I'll be interested to see how it settles once the winch is on. Don't like the shackle angles at the moment but the springs have 0 miles on them. Probably will want to extend back the rear wheel well now that the rear springs are flipped/rear axle is relocated rearward. The front locking hubs are not installed yet either.

looks cool! :)

Do you have time for anything else? Working on a 40 and 60, ever get confused as to which vehicle you're wrenching?

Looking good, will the 60 be at the Meat & Greet?

Real color is rattle can camo green.

The MetalTech cage and the hard top are not bolted down yet, the windshield is getting cleaned up for paint... still 10,000 things to do but...

That's my second favorite color for a 40. Nice work Mark!
