I drove by Dave Edwards Toyota in Spartanburg yesterday and noticed that they had 2 FJ40s sitting under the "porch" area up by the showroom. Of course, I had to do a u-turn and check them out. Of all days, I left my phone at home and didn't have a way to take pictures but they were really nice.
Both were 74 models. A Blue one was a frame off restoration that looks bone stock. They are running 30x9.5 BFG MTs on that one. The guys inside said they did the restoration, in-house, at the dealership. It is a very nice vehicle.
The Green one has a small OME lift and is running 33x10.5 BFG MTs. It is also very nice, just not quite as nice at the blue one and a little ways from "stock."
I stopped in and spoke to the guys and, of course, asked for a price.... WOW!
I shouldn't have been surprised though....
While talking to the sales manager, he told me they just got a 1977 model in that was beige (it was actually brown). I walked in the back and sure enough, they had the wheels and tires off, going through it. They said they had it for about a week. It loks lie kit will be a nice one and it hasn't been re-painted yet.
Anyway... I figured if any of you guys were in or around Spartanburg, you might want to go check them out. They are all three really nice vehicles. You can see them from Reidville Rd.
Of course, my wheels started turning (pun intended) and now I can't decide if I really want to go away from stock at all on my 78 or if I want to go back to "fully stock".......
Both look great and both would be nice. I loved the look of the one with larger tires but then again, the one that looked like it just rolled off the showroom floor had a different kind of nostangic appeal. Decisions... decisions!
