I drove by Dave Edwards Toyota in Spartanburg yesterday and noticed that they had 2 FJ40s sitting under the "porch" area up by the showroom. Of course, I had to do a u-turn and check them out. Of all days, I left my phone at home and didn't have a way to take pictures but they were really nice.

Both were 74 models. A Blue one was a frame off restoration that looks bone stock. They are running 30x9.5 BFG MTs on that one. The guys inside said they did the restoration, in-house, at the dealership. It is a very nice vehicle.

The Green one has a small OME lift and is running 33x10.5 BFG MTs. It is also very nice, just not quite as nice at the blue one and a little ways from "stock."

I stopped in and spoke to the guys and, of course, asked for a price.... WOW! :censor: I shouldn't have been surprised though....

While talking to the sales manager, he told me they just got a 1977 model in that was beige (it was actually brown). I walked in the back and sure enough, they had the wheels and tires off, going through it. They said they had it for about a week. It loks lie kit will be a nice one and it hasn't been re-painted yet.

Anyway... I figured if any of you guys were in or around Spartanburg, you might want to go check them out. They are all three really nice vehicles. You can see them from Reidville Rd.

Of course, my wheels started turning (pun intended) and now I can't decide if I really want to go away from stock at all on my 78 or if I want to go back to "fully stock"....... :bang: Both look great and both would be nice. I loved the look of the one with larger tires but then again, the one that looked like it just rolled off the showroom floor had a different kind of nostangic appeal. Decisions... decisions!

Spill the beans, how many clams for each?

Ha, Ha... I wondered how long it would take to ask.

The one with the Old Man Emu lift... $39,000

The bone stock Blue one.... $49,000, on sale from $54,000 :grinpimp: They said they could deliver them for me before Christmas. I bet they could...

Wow, they must do their shopping at Barrett Jackson...

Laugh all you want but they might just get it. Most peeps at the dealership can't look past the bling effect. Pondjumper go stock other than mild lift and tires and call it good. Your 40 is nice!

I agree that they may get it. Honestly, the stock blue one is the nicest one I have ever seen in person. I have not seen any that have sold for $70-80K at auction, in person, but the one that Dave Edwards did, is really, really nice.

I finally sold that acreage that has been draining my wallet so I can start working on mine slowly but surely. I just freed up $600/month in payments!!!! Hopefully by the Spring, I will start doing some work on mine, getting her running a little more efficiently and then working on some cosmetic stuff. Santa brought me a few goodies so I already have some project time scheduled! I just need to squirrel some more money to get other stuff done. Nickel and dime....

I can't decide on whether to lift it or not so i will likely not lift it at first. After seeing Teddy's 80, I have been seriously considering one like that for wheeling and making my 40 a "Sunday" drive vehicle. Who knows?? It's just money, right??

I had a similar identity crisis for my cruisers. I'm planning to head down a similar road - the 40 will be an around town "Sunday driver" and the 80 will be the wheeler. After blowing the differential on the 100, clearly, it will remain the DD.

There's a lot of that in ONSC! I did exactly the same but still take the 40 to URE on occasion to flex it out. The 80 is the camp/wheel/DD rig.

I was over by Dave Edwards Toyota again today and this caught my eye. At first I was thinking "WTH??" But after a closer look, it's actually a nice rig. Check it out.

We stopped there on the way to GSMTR. They had 5 out front. Most were very nice.

Yes. They have 4-5 there now including a FJ45. It has a small block in it as well as 2 others that I saw. I love the 45s but that one does nothing for me. Generally, if they are really nice, he will keep them. If they are resto-mod, he puts them on the lot. One still has the Barrett-Jackson sticker on the window.

He has a dune beige 79+ model that he drives around town some. Needless to say, it is REALLY nice. I think he bought it new.

I wasn't real impressed with the 45 either, once I started looking at it up close.
the 40's were much nicer.
