My 40 sits about an inch too high in the front. The PO installed a shackle reversal kit, and the front hangers are a bit tall for my liking. The rig has a 4" lift with a 2" body lift.

I was going to get rid of the body lift, but it's starting to grow on me so I think I'll lower the front and maybe bring the axle back an inch or so instead. What are my options? Will welding on stock hangers work or is there an aftermarket solution that would be better?

Here's an old pic of the hangers. I'd appreciate it if someone could identify them. The bezel has been flipped....

The second pic is how it sits now.

you might want to just put a small lift block in the rear to level it out

It's as high as I can have it and still get in the garage so lowering a tad is the preferred solution. I really don't like those long hangers - "rock catchers" I think they call 'em.

Ruffstuff Specialties has some really nice STOUT shorter hangers that should work for you.

Best

Thanks Mark! That's exactly what I'm looking for.

Your rig doesn't look too high in the front to me. 1" more shackle in the rear would probably make it right. It's probably good with the top off too.

These were made by Proffitt's, I believe. We added the 1" block to drop them down and add steering clearance.

Chicago has the ruffstuff ones, which have the lift built in. Both his and my rig have fj60/62 axles, so they're wider and the mounts are outboad.

I belive they are the old landcruiser Advanced handling hangers. I used the hangers from proffits too.

Be aware that the short hangers are generally intended for spring over setups where you intend to address caster angles anyway. The tall hangers are that way because their height is needed to
keep caster geometry intact when you aren't going to cut and turn your knuckles.
You can reverse those hangers and slide them forward a little so they rake back. When you do you also flip the springs front to back so the short side is forward. You'll have a huge improvement in approach angle.
Even better than a shackle forward setup.

How was the body lift done? Any chance you could take out a wedge of body lift to even things out i.e. take out 1" of lift in the front, tapering to nothing in the rear? Yeah, it would be a lot of work.

I thought about that, which is what led me to this inquiry about reducing lift on the hangers. It would be an easier and I believe a better solution than shaving the body mounts one by one.

My Ruff Stuff hangers came in today. After I get my HFS bumper I'll have them put in.

They're a little shorter than I wanted, so I guess I'll have to get a 1" bar spacer welded in too.

They're going in the front? The mil-wrap contacts the (short) hanger too with the fj55 rear springs I use. I smeared some grease in there and just let them rub. It was creaky before the grease. The rears rub with my setup just the same. I greased those too, now they're quiet.

I'll watch for that, thanks.
