I learnt from other forums that the hinges can be adjusted ( inside ) and also the door can be adjusted on the hinges, outside. Ill leave some pictures. Any thign you guys know about adjustment will be A appreciated. I also no

I also noticed that before i swapped the doors, the passenger side has a smaller gap towards the top next to the handle, on the gap between the door and the tub .

Your pic's aren't all that good. Appears you do not have all the bolts in - doors are heavy and cantilevered way out - so they sag without proper support.
When asking for help year/model/ market helps get the correct answer sooner.

Bent hinges will never align properly. Take them off and check, straighten them if necessary. The hinge pins could be real sloppy too and that will make alignment very hard to do. Fix that first. Usually you would support the door with like an adjustable chair and put the bolts in - and then adjust the fit. Sometimes shims are used.

thank you,

thank you, i took the doors off and put them back just for the pictures, but its roughly the same with all bolts, its a 1978, ill take the hinges out and make sure they're not bent

The '78 didn't have doors with wing windows. Don't know if the over all dimensions changed but think think the angle fitment of the doorframe to the windshield
differs from the earlier doors. Someone with more knowledge needs to chime in. Is your 40 an import or US model?

The outer hinges look like they could be adjusted better rotating the door clockwise

If that doesn’t work… I would take the upper inner door hinge and swap with the lower

Looks like the inner hinges may be a tad tweaked with how close to the rib the lower one is compared to the top

The non USA vent doors do fit as any USA version … those are a desirable style door

This is my 9/64 FJ45

The doors do not have bug catcher vent windows which I been told it should have. Doors are later. They fit perfectly.

Here is my 9/67 (68 model) FJ40.

Hard top is from a 73 FJ40 that I installed the pillars and vent windows from a wrecked 78 FJ40. The doors are off a wrecked 79 with 30K miles that was hit in the front and back. Doors were perfect. I needed to open hole in the A pillar for door limiter since the later doors are thicker. 68 has a larger fuel tank than the 9/72-1/79. The passenger door on the 75+ just barely clears the fuel tank but it does fit. Made a small adapter plates to switch the catches on the B pillar. This was done over forty years ago.

Here is my 3/79 FJ40.

Side doors are from a 75 FJ40 based on the metal window crank handles. Top is from early 78 FJ40 (has the bracket to mount the three point seat belts). The ambulance doors are off wrecked 84 troopy from Australia.

Here is my 2/73 FST.

This was the top from an early 78. Hatch is from my 68. Passenger side of the hard top got damaged when I put the cruiser on it's side fall.of 1975.

Been playing match mix cruiser parts since I put a 73 top on my 68 back in 1976. It's the original condition of cruiser and parts that matters. Once the small corner windows in the back started everything is pretty universal as being the same overall size. Minor mods may be required.

Exception is using ambulance doors on a tub built for tailgate or barn doors. Ambulance doors fit flush with the tub. Tailgate and barn doors fit against the back of the tub. Barn doors and tailgate could fit flush up to 1/79. After that bottom corners need to be trimmed. That true on ambulance made before 1/79. Top sides work with either.
