This A/C unit is not blowing cold. It appears the compressor is leaking and needs to be replaced. So my question is where can I get a suitable replacement? Are all compressors created equal? Can I just get order at a parts store or do I need to find out who supplies this A/C unit? This doesn't look like a Vintage Air or Cool Cruisers unit so I am not sure who the manufacturer is. The system is R12 so I'm likely going to have to convert it. Any advice would be helpful.

interesting, OEM PS pump(on passenger side), no smog, A/C but no heater blower(or heater unit), but yet I see a heater control valve(back by the firewall, but its not mounted to anything)

I think its a Vintage AC not OEM, but maybe the compressor is OEM...

The unit provides both heat and A/C. I assumed it was aftermarket and it does look similar to Vintage Air. The truck came from Colombia at some point, I found her in Omaha of all places. Very low miles and original paint. 3:70 gears with H41 granny low. Whoever owned her made some nice upgrades. They were able to fit in an OEM roll bar while retaining the long seats. The also added disc brakes in front.

I learned a new acronym "Friendly Local Auto Parts Store" or FLAPS! - Thanks JimC.

Don't believe it's a dealer installed. Certainly not factory. Dealer installed would be a Clardy here in the US. It has two vents on the left and one big one on the right.

Looks like one of the NAC kits. http://nostalgicac.com/complete-ac-kits/toyota-fj-40-ac-kits.html

Give them a buzz. Willing to bet they can tell you everything you need.

Interesting cruiser. Non Heater model with a late 2f and an autralian or Japanese spec air cleaner. Maybe a Saudi spec cruiser? Or someone went wild on customizing it and did a really good job.

Nice cruiser non the less.

that is one of the best SA 40's I have seen...I can even live with the Colombian spec hard top

Dealer installed is supposed to be Nippondenso kit, PN 88300-60080. But some (many) dealers will bend the rules and install non-OEM stuff before sale.

But you're right, other than the OEM compressor/bracket/crank pulley, the rest of the plumbing and under-dash is not OEM.

3rd world (general markets) spec. As noted above, it has the weird locally produced hardtop assembly to meet the local content requirement.

Also note the OEM PS pump assembly, but awkwardly routed PS hoses.
Looks like they procured the OEM AC and PS stuff that bolts to the engine, then fabricated out from there to aftermarket AC and PS.

Happy new year. I have an fj40 2f engine LHD. I am missing the compressor, and I need a replacement. Does not need to be OEM. Can someone suggest a good alternative?

Cheers

Julian

Take a look at the Sanden AC compressor SD5H14 with a C1 groove wide pulley. I run this unit in my FJ40 and it is sitting on the newer Vintage Air (AC & ALT) bracket.
