My father and my father-in-law both have a device implanted into their chests to zap the heart back into the correct rhythm if it senses a problem.

My fathers has gone off 3 times, each time knocking him unconscious for a few seconds. Each time he was doing some type of strenuous activity. Each time it has saved his life. The last one was on the golf course. It knocked him out cold for 5 minutes. But had it not been there, his heart would have literally beat itself to death. he's 67.

Father-in-laws hasnt gone off ever in the 5 years that he's had it. He's 70.

he doesnt have an implant...they have him on blood thiner and another pill ...i forget it use.

when he gets home to LI they will be checking his heart and then once a week for the next few months...i guess they will determine if thats needed?

Sorry to hear this Johnny. Glad he is going to be okay. I would make sure your father follows thru with getting this checked out. I hear this and I realize how much younger most you guys are. I'm closer to the age your father's ages. I had planned on posting in the chat thread just to keep it from falling off the first page. This wasn't the type of post we need to keep it there.

Here's how I spent my weekend. Got the 45 up north. Now I have some projects to keep me busy over the winter. Well that and keeping up on the firewood.

Hey Johnny, sorry to hear, but glad he is back home. Thanksgiving this year will have extra meaning...

It is starting to fill up. Next summer I hope to get my pallet shelving up there. Plus I need to get some of the shelving that hangs from the ceiling across the back for storing of camping gear and other non-cruiser items. You can see the area I'm patching from the pony wall I removed in front of the FJ45. The county made the builder put one in front and rear. It was achored well to the floor but there was only a few nails in the trusses on the top. I guess it would keep the roof from flying off in a tornado. Of course it was Simpson Fasteners who told the county it was needed. Funny thing there are the only ones who make the approved plates for the achors in the concrete.

My Dad has arrhythmia. His heart falls out of rhythm and convulses - for lack of a better word. It is mainly an electrical problem. There is no logical reason we still have him today. He had a "conventional" heart attack around my age, my grandfather died of the same around the same age. He's had several episodes, one was our volunteer FD's first save with their brand new AED (drill night and the FD is about a mile away). He now has an internal defib. Although it has fired off on him it has not been necessary. Weird stuff like cold meds (forbidden) will cause havoc with it. At 82, he's getting mad that he can no longer do what he used to (no Fall Gathering this year). I really attribute that to forty years of a witch's brew of meds, that has saved him overall, but ruined other systems.

Probably the only vehicle I would ever be jealous of anyone owning (not the 100 ). I think it's probably better I never get one. Kinda like the first time driving a Power Wagon after wanting one for years. Some things are just better off not ever happening.

That wasn't the case for me and the 45. But having driven a FJ40 for over twenty years might have helped that. I will say it would be the last cruiser to go. I have been dragging old cruisers and military trailers around for a long time. This one gets the most thumbs up by far. I got a few on Saturday when I towed it up.

I'm happy to announce that me wife is now a Major in the US Army. Her 1965 40 is still being woorked on But since I got her the Monte Carlo she hasn't mentioned it much. Early next year she deploys again. Might be interested again in trying to swap the 25 to someone to finish the 40. I have to haul the 40 from Ft Hood Killeen TX back to PA. Is some one interested while I have it on the trailer?

Johnny, Glad to hear your dad is ok. My mom has atril fib,which is an irregular heartbeat.It can come and go,but she is on blood thinner and meds and the doc says it is not a serious condition.She has been ok for the last 2 years,she is 68.Anyway Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
