Hi, First I think I’ve read all posts on mud, pirate etc.truck 1987 stock. Issues no headlights, turn signals or fan hvac blower. I’ve tried the following.New combination switch, new relays, new headlights . Cleaned and checked grounds on A pillars and grounds in buss connector in dash behind instrument cluster. Other symptoms when turned to headlights bright indicator comes on,both turn signals light up togeather but don’t work, headlight relay buzzes running lights work fine and so does the emergency flashers.Anyone had this problem ? Thanks , Mike

Are you absolutely certain both bulbs are good?? I was driving around with only one headlight working on my 60…but did not realize it. On the freeway at night the other one went out also…total darkness.

EDIT: Mine turned out to be a fried aftermarket 5 pin relay.

WRT to fan HVAC blower. Check circuit breaker on fuse panel. I think you can reset it.

I thought may be the bulbs were both bad. So I went and bought new ones. Was hoping that was it. Nope new ones don’t work either. Probably in the 20 plus cruisers we’ve owned never had this.Went to the Lone Star meeting tonight, lots of smart guys, no one has ever experienced this. There are no gremlins so it’s probably something simple but…

Ps if I remove headlights no more buzzing from rely when light switch turned on.

There’s probably better way, but this is what I would do:

1) get a 12v test light
2) take a reading at the plugs that go to the bulbs…to verify that you have no 12v
3) then start doing the same at the steering wheel light switch, and keep working towards the bulb

Pain in the ass, but somewhere there is a break in the connections from the switch to the bulb somewhere.

make sure your fusible link is in good condition. Also take out your related fuses and put them back in.

Headlights ground through the dimmer switch. If your high beam light is coming on it might mean something is wrong with the connection to ground via the dimmer switch. I would start with the connector. disconnect the connector and check for continuity to ground on the wiring harness side (terminal 13) and check for voltage from head light on low (terminal 6) and high (terminal 5).

Anyone got a picture of their 1987 relays below the dash? 1985-1987 are different.
Thanks

Does anyone know where the high beam indicator light is grounded to the FJ-60 body? Also where does the ground wire for dimmer switch go to ground? Thanks

They ground to the front pillar grounds under the dash on either side. I believe the relays ground to a junction in the main harness that comes through the firewall on the driver's side. You will have to cut into the wrapping/tape to find it. Looks the same as the ground junction behind the instrument cluster. I metal block with lots of w/b wires coming to it. Then it has a large w/b wire going to the pillar ground on the drivers side.

you can drop the rail that the relays connect to. It unscrews (10mm) at the front and hinges at the back. Then you can inspect the ground wires coming into the rail that supply the relays. It won't drop that much because the wires feeding into it, but enough to check the wiring.

I’ve cleaned and sanded both a pillars, found buss bar behind dash it appears perfect.

Ok, but there is ANOTHER buss bar/ground junction behind the drivers side kick panel. Just follow the white/black stripe wire from the ground at the driver's side pillar under the metal dash to it. Then follow all the smaller w/b wires that go to the same ground junction, you will find they go back to the relay rail.

HVAC blower is on a separate circuit from the turn signals and headlights. Usually it is the heater circuit breaker top right in the fuse box that has tripped. But you can easily unplug from the blower motor and put a multi tester or 12v test light to the terminals at the plug and test for voltage there. Most likely not the blower but the breaker. Unplug the breaker and push the small pin hole (use a finishing nail or paper clip) and see if you can get it to click/reset. If it does, it may blow again with the AC on and the fan on high. The work around is a 30 amp inline fuse put in place of the worn out breaker.

Thanks, what’s bad is my fj62s are showing early signs of this.

Did you install a pre-owned used combo switch or a new new one
