I am at the point where I need to get springs for my FJ-45 LPB. Anyone have a good source? So far Man-A-Fre's OME kit seems to be the only game in town. $1595 plus over $200 for shipping is a bit steep. Any ideas? Thanks. J

When I lived in Western CO these guys built me several sets for different vehicles. Their product was always decent. They build off lengths from stock measurments so if you have much arch or change a spring hanger location be sure top tell them the correct length.

I know Sky is messing with some new leafspring ideas but not sure on his desire to mess with 45 stuff. You might want to check with him to see if he is interested.

And there is always

They build an awesom product but they are $$$ but will last for a long time.

You asked for other options and those are places I have used and trust. Just a side bar note. I have also run OME. I know the Cruiser crowd in general love them. I don't care for them. For more than a few reasons beyond price.

^X2 on Alcan. They set me up with a very nice set of front springs for my 45. I can't say enough about the trail performance and quiet operation to date.

Ive had good results with the alcan on other applications but another option would be to call Eli at camel 4x4 and see if he could get you some Ironman springs. Mark A (65swb45) has a set on his rig after a broken leaf incident if you want to inquire to ride quality and he is a dealer as well depending on your location. Seems like i also read about someone inquiring about or actually getting a custom set made by Deaver possibly as well. Good luck

Alcan

I went with Alcan. Like them so far.

We (Cruiser Outfitters) stock a couple different FJ45 kits at any given time, they have proven to be a great option, greasable pins for the fixed rear hangers, etc. Our price is a bit higher than others but the devil is in the details, our kits feature 100% OME parts for a superior fit/finish. We can start mixing and matching to drop the price at the buyers request. Eventually a full OME setup will end up under the Old Lady's 45 build but we have more pressing concerns like getting seat covers so she will ride in it :D

Can you tell me a little more about your LC shown here in this thread? Looks like a 43?

Its a 45. We took about 10 inch off the back end. Otherwise it would be the same as a stock troopy. We wanted a little better departure angle without making it look like it got kicked in the ass. Its a 1966 even though Toyota never made a troopy that old. We liked the style of an older cruiser so thats what we built.

I'm confused. So are you saying its a LPB that you chopped? So did you weld the bed to the cab to create a Troopy/43 type setup but w your 66? I agree the pups that have short bobbed beds do look like they were kicked in the ass.

Hi Timbo, I have a shortened 45 also currently in build stage. Can you post or send me lengths and whatever you did with the suspension and shocks. That ride height and tire size looks perfect and would like to get Alcan or someone to build me a set.

Thanks

Don Haywood would have that info. He built the LC at his shop. Wolf Creek Rod Works. I'm sure he would be happy to talk to you about it.

I wanted some where around 4 inches of lift, Alcan spring under with 7100 bilstein shocks to fit the 37 inch tires.

10 inches may have been the perfect number. I took 12 out of mine, but was looking for maximum departure angle. I used a set of rear OME leafs from Kurt with greasable shackles, but I removed the helper springs because I installed a U-bolt flip kit on the truck. I ordered a set of 3 inch Alcan fronts in an attempt to give the truck an even stance with all that was done with the front end.

Best out of the box ride was the parabolics.....

Drove it 22hrs frome Vancouver bc to Pismo, not so bad for a bread box of a truck..
