The Block looks like a 2f, however it has the small bore and oils through the head and rocker stand. Soil rocker shaft. Oil filter on right side, screw on. Does not have oil pressure regulator on left side. I think it is a 74 which takes the head with long head bolts. Can a person put on a different year head with success?

flat top pistons?
you need a head to match them as a domed piston head would lose a lot of power and compression

This isn’t the conversation I thought it was going to be when I clicked it open….

Will a '74 block and '74 (or 2F) rocker assembly work (oil) with a '68 to 9/73 F-head and some choice of head gasket?
Technically probably possible, but not easy. The '68-'73 F head won't have the internal oil passage from the block to the rocker stand. You might be able to drill them though.

So, if the OP was to acquire a closed chamber 2F head (like my '82), there is a mismatch regarding bore diameter. The '74-year F had a smaller diameter / displacement, could the decked surface of the block be overly exposed in the combustion chamber? Otherwise, maybe it is an alternative to an actual '74 F.5 head?
