Fixing the stuck odometer (with pics)

I think I shorted it out. I ended up searching the classifieds here every day until I found an old cluster for cheap. Installed and voila, everything worked.

I don’t know jack about cars. How in the world would they just short out? Is that fixable? And how do you tell if it’s a short or something else?

Did you discover what happened with fuel gauge? I just did the odometer clean today and now fuel, temp and oil gauges don’t work!

Fuse perhaps? I popped my heater fuse while I was doing re-assembly, and for some reason that circuit also runs the gauges (and isn't labeled as such). At least on a '76...

I will take a peek! I’m sad to say that for mine it looks like it was wired, re wired and modded over and over by ringling brothers.

It happens...I just thought I'd mention the fuse, as it had my head scratching. I pulled my cluster out to straighten the ammeter, and noticed I had no gauges on reassembly. Only after printing the wiring diagram, tracing leads, and pulling the cluster did I realize they feed from the heater fuse...which was blown from when I swapped it out after popping a different circuit (stole the heater fuse for a different circuit)

I need help Odo not working

I disassembled cleaned and reassembled now the miles turn on the 5 instead of the 9 so after .5 it turns 1 mile and then on the next .5 it turns 2 miles after 5 miles it turns 15 miles and so on. What might I have done wrong? I tried taking it apart again but I got the same results. Please help!

I know this is an old thread but what did you end up doing to fix this issue? Just did this last night and had the same outcome?

For whatever reason, the odometer stopped even though the speedometer was spinning it's heart out.

The OP write up was perfect and gave me the confidence to conclusively know I didn't want to take it all the way down to those tiny cogs - thanks!!

See, just like Trump and Biden, Toyota and Jeep can get along....
