I know there are possibly 100's or more posts on this mod but it's always fun to share. Just got it in this morning!. Much needed here in AZ. The old one was garbage, may have been original, didn't here anything resembling a "roar" upon start. Especially couldn't keep up when 112-115 or whatever it was here the other day. Good thing the trusty temp gauge was right in the middle . Much thanks to Josh at AJIK, super fast.

Ooh shiny.

I don't even know the brand of the old one.

Done deal! Sure is breezy under there now!

May I ask how much is that?

That is an Eaton fan clutch, good units according to those in the know. Very easily opened up, drained and new fluid added for around $10. I think it would be better than the new blue hub clutch if you did this. My point is not that you wasted money or anything like that, that's for you to decide. I just think you may want to do some searching and do the drain and fill, then sell the old one to recoup some of your investment.

I have that same clutch on my 95. It wasn't cutting it in the SoCal heat, which has only gotten to about 107. My AC was cutting out and I was boiling over occasionally. I cracked the clutch open and drained the old brownish oil and re-filled it with some 10k oil that I got at the hobby shop for $4. My truck has not gone over 195 now and the AC gets real cold and stays that way now. I'll probably still get a blue clutch, but for now the clutch oil change has breathed new life into it.

Don't toss it, if you don't want it I will take it.

Are these Eaton's? Would it be better to keep it and mod it than eventually changing out to a blue hub. I could search but you know quite a bit about them so I figured I'd ask and avoid scrolling through countless threads.

If you already have it why not try replacing the fluid before ordering a brand new unit ? Of course you will need some sort of gauge or the raventai mod to see if your having any real affect.

:bounce::bounce2: and two of these because my daughter is standing over my shoulder and wants me to put them on here.

I've already drained and refilled with 10k oil. I have an ultragauge and have been watching temps, havn't gone above 195 in 100+degree weather. I won't get a new clutch unless it's needed or unless it works better. I was just wondering if a modded Eaton would be better/worse than a modded Blue.

I don't mean to threadjack OP, I just wanted to get some info on these clutches.

Here are a couple more for your little one half K.

No worries. I won't even say it's a waste of money if it does as well as I've heard. Overpaid might be a better way of saying it (I know a ton of trial and error and time went into getting it right), but I made the call to buy it. I read through pages and pages on reoiling an old one but there never was a clear cut answer on what viscosity to use, how much, do you drain it completely by heating or is just letting gravity do the work good enough. Not saying there wasn't one. It came down to having one done proven to work and temp re-calibrated to boot without any down time for my rig. Plus I'm the type that needs to know exactly what to do and with so many opinions on it I just wanted it done.

This brings me to the question since it is such a popular mod with so many threads and questions on it, why wouldn't there be a sticky of how to do it with pics and how much oil to use and where the fill level is and what clutch is best to do the mod on, or will any due? I'm new to the whole clutch redo so there's probably a ton of variables (again why I opted to buy) so excuse the naivety. Thanks and appreciate all comments.

Hmmm.....

It's on my list of things to do. Just haven't done it yet. If no one else beats me to it, I'll do a full-detail writeup w/pics.

Is there a step by step with pictures to remove & replace the fan clutch without changing the oil. I don't mind to pay for the retrofitted blue clutch and not to fool around opening it apart.

Sometimes it breaks down to how much time you have and what's your time worth?
For the most part I like to do my own wrenching but if the times not there I'll pay extra.
I don't know that I would say you overpaid, it's a great mod one that I have done and thought it to be worthwhile.

Also buying anything from AJIK is always a pleasure.

Oh no not being defensive, sorry to come across that way. I'm too new to even know what I'm talking about! Saying I overpaid came across wrong as well, no offense to AJIK...I did in a sense of what I COULD have spent.

You hit the nail basically for me Rainking. Having two younger boys and activities involved, combined with the lack of tools to make jobs easier to counteract the time aspect, paying more to get it done quick and right takes precedence. I have done some minor things on my 92 Mustang like the fan clutch several times, turning into adding an electric fan. I've replaced front and rear springs on it among other minor tune up stuff. So I'm not inept just really familiar with that car. So this will take time as well. Others with more kids, less time, less tools, and can still wrench away I give much props too.

I did see Tools R Us is local to me. I haven't reached out to him or anyone here yet. I also checked out the club and will probably join in. For meetings Friday nights are nearly impossible but we'll see.

Thanks to all, much to learn, but great community.

here are my .02 i installed a new blue clutch fan thermostat radiator cap about 4 of the bigger hoses and a full flush with clean new fluid in before i left on this trip to the UP and it was $$$ well spent the AC stays on even after driving the 500 miles up from columbus OH pulling my 5000 lb + travel trailer 7 passengers 4 bikes and lots and lots of gear

I am glad i spent the extra $ to do it right the first time
tomorrow ill be going to drive the dunes at silver lake ill let u know how that goes but so far 0 issues the engine comparment never feels too hot thanks Josh

There is definitely value in getting a part that is modded by someone who has put the hours in figuring it out. I bought one the other day too. Now I have the eaton clutch to F' with on my own time and my :princess: rig won't have any down time.
I read most of the LandTank fan clutch mod thread and then made the educated choice to spend the dough to buy his work. Someone who puts that much thought into helping us keep these thing running can have a few of my dollars now and then. I will buy from tools-r-us when the chance presents too.
