I finally have something to contribute. We pulled this out of our way with the loader, then bucked it up.

We got seven loads of firewood in the two and a half weeks we just spent at our mountain place, and I actually remembered to get pictures this time. This load went to our friends store.

I forgot a pic of the second load, but here you can tell what we just unloaded.

Nice big fir found it's way into the bed of my truck.

Brought this down on Sunday. I went up to meet the mechanic and work on the loader, and drug the trailer along too. Took the air compressor and pressure washer just in case, didn’t need them. I had already started unloading it, that’s why the back corner is empty.

Nice score.

Is the rest of the tree going to find it’s way into your truck too?
Nothing left to load, it all made it.

Brought this down under our stuff last trip. There’s about two more split cords up there, once we haul that down we’re done with oak this season. Our softwoods are dwindling too, so we’ll cut some of that too.

Just stumbled across this thread... been cutting firewood here in Australia since I was a little boy. Almost always red gum or a Box of some sort here on the farm. Always have run stihl, favourite for us is the 660. Really hard wood, clean cutting and very clean burning. Mixing 2 different types of wood together, say stringy bark and red gum can yield a ridiculously hot fire.

Still working my way through a fir stash that is nearby, we pulled 4 good trees today, ballpark 3 cords worth of wood.

I'm sure some out there would say that the way the country is going, it won't be long before firewood becomes the new main currency... ! Yea! (Stocking up on chainsaws....) :)

Fir runs about $275ish a cord here, depending upon season and weather conditions, I've seen fir selling for $450 a cord in the winter.

Going out to cut it isn't worth it to me to sell it at that price, way too much work for not enough money.

I'm in it now for the exercise.

how many cords would an average house use per year in Montana if it does all heating with wood?

A Rick of wood which I think is around 1/3 a cord is $100 here but that’s even little high.

No way I’m gonna go down that line of work! That kinda money won’t won’t even cover doctor bills for poison ivy these days!

I burn about 5 cords each year, give or take a half cord.
