Me too, I've used wood heat most of my life never buying a stick and I'm 70 now. When retiring I bought a hydro splitter, but still swing the #16 monster maul. I think about slowing down, but really it just happens with age. Doing the same amount of work, just takes longer I guess. I truly am dreading the day they take my saws away from me.

I have been heating the house and shop with wood for 15 years now.

This is Pi, a 2 year old Catahoula Hound. Catahoulas are collectors. Pi collects fire wood. He brings in a chunk every time I bring in an arm load. He also brings in chunks on his own. What you see is a couple days worth. The longer stuff goes over to the shop.

He's a great dog, typical hunting breed. You know, nuts! :)

My wife now has him herding horses for her. He did it for me this morning. It's a start, hopefully he sticks with it.

The only thing she herds is grandchildren

In the process of taking down all of the bradford pear at our new place. My son loves the chance to drop a tree with an axe.

Only one volunteer on my trip to the yard waste dump.

@Casey E great photos… this stuff is a dream of mine. Terrific kid you have

dang. When I think of most 15 years olds in the city.... only worrying about TikToks... sheesh....

I brought this down from our mountain place yesterday. The come along is on there because my son broke the thing that keeps it closed on that side, I’ll have to make another one.

Guys, I should tell you that from personal experience, your house is much more likely to burn down after you have spent some serious time splitting wood for it, so beware... Hopefully YMwillV!

never been, never will. On meds, that is... No need. :)
It's just statistics. The one time I split several cords and stored them in beautiful piles in front of my place, my house burned down. So 100% proof. Statistics don't lie! That and just don't believe anything you read online and you'll be fine.

A limb split off a Live Oak.
I was able to brush it out for a habitat pile and process the tree for firewood.
It was over a 7’ drop off into a creek so I had to pull the log so it didn’t fall in the creek.

I cannot believe the heat that Live Oak puts out.
