I Cut my own wood, but if i were to buy wood, I'd never buy wood from someone selling a rick of wood. It's an unclear or made up measurement, generally considered a face of a cord but doesn't account the logs length. To me, it wood be a negotiation of what you feel it's quantity is worth. A cord is 128 Sq feet. 4ft x 4ft x8ft. In Southern Ohio I burn about 4 to 5 cords.

We have it too.
You also have denser wood with higher btu output, fir is about the highest btu we have here.

Plus it's plentiful just a short drive away.

I'd be more than willing to help you unload a truckload of oak in my backyard!

Now there’s more oak to split. This had fallen right in the road, and was hard not to go back for.

We’re pretty set for the winter! Got my whole 5’high 40’ long wood rack full w at least two fresh split cords on deck. Been doing this for years, How many cords do you guys think are in the rack? Wood is 12-18” long single stacks. There are 5-bays all 5’x8’?

In Wyoming, with a permit from USFS we go out to the backwoods to find dead trees to cut up, haul home and split with a log splitter, pile it up in the barn for heating. This is alot of work but I grew up doing this with my dad and brothers with fondness, so its sort of part tradition, part to save money on heating, and partly because wood heat on a -30 degree night in January is the best! Mostly lodgepole and various fir trees. 4-5 chord per year for supplemental heat in our large standalone wood stove on the main level. Also use cove (electric) heat and a pellet stove depending on availability and price of various fuels.

Got more room to stack firewood, Framed up a bottom rack in between old fence posts that are in good shape @10’ centers. So now new wood rack will be 6’x 10’ sections. The old redwood fence is rotted and falling down. Luckily the old property owners put up a chain link fence around our whole property! I used some old temp job site privacy screen ( Tennis anyone!)
Got a few more to go and barely put a dent in the big pile!
