So what your fire suppressant system? What type are you using and where did you mount them? I just have witnessed a Jeep burn to the ground. Broke a break line that sprayed fluid onto the CATs. It was full blaze in less than a minute. It was shear tom fu@#ry. The Jeep did have a fire extinguisher but it was mounted on the back and they couldn't get to it in time. Every one else that could have helped was in the same situation. They had them but could not get to them fast enough.

I just bit a bullet after seeing that. I ordered a 5 lbs H3R the mounts and quick release for the front passenger seat. I don't even care if its in the way. Also 2 ABC 5lbs to be mounted left and right in the back. I had the basic fire extinguisher and realized it's worthless. It will pass inspection for trails but useless for a real fire. This is must have mod. Do the lift get the tyres get the winch but if all the work burns it's for nothing. Rare yes! But things happen.

That's a good spot for the element- I keep mine in the door pocket but I like your solution better.

How effective is that tiny thing?

I can personally attest to they are great! That 50 sec burn time feels like a really log time! I had a carb fire start and buddy was able to grab his element before I could run to my 200 to grab mine after not being able to fumble the regular extinguisher off the mount on the 40. Someone also ran over with a small traditional extinguisher.

Pros to traditional style:
- you can spray as needed
- don't waste full bottle all at once

Cons to traditional style:
- small tanks that you would carry have a very short spray time before empty
- can leave residue on vehicle and parts

Element pros:
- really compact!
- 50sec burn time feels like forever
- no residue left behind (it starves the fire of its oxygen)
- after the fire is out you still have a lot of burn time to do silly things with the smoke coming out until its done

Element cons:
- once you strike it, you have to keep it going for the 50 seconds and then its done
- where the smoke comes from that starves the flame gets really hot
- you really should only hold the black part of handle when struck and after it finishes

As someone that has had a vehicle burn to the ground, very interested in this. I've been searching for a good solution but can't find a good place to mount a big tank, not sure how well the smaller ones work. Super helpful thread so far, looking forward to seeing more/different options. Ideally I would go with a combo of an Element for quick access and a traditional if I can find a place to mount it.

I've also seriously considered a hard mounted fire suppression system in the engine compartment.

I lost a vehicle to an engine fire many years ago (on an autobahn in Germany... the Germans billed me for damage to the road!).

I keep two fire extinguishers in my drawer system in my 100 series, and will be adding two to our 200 series soon. It doesn't have a drawer system, so I haven't decided where to put them yet.

After hearing your story, on the above, around the campfire that evening - I was convinced and ordered one after returning home
And a lot less expensive than my H3R Performance HG250B.

Yes! The Germans will bill you for that! It is also a fine if you run out of gas because it is your responsibility to make sure you have gas. I agree hahaha
