Let me start by saying when I bought my 40 I had never even changed my own oil! Since then I have done a lot of work on it and even did the front axle service on my 80.
I got my 40 in March of 07 and drove it all last summer just the way it was. Then at the end of that summer I pulled the interior and spent the winter cleaning and painting all the pieces I could manage to get into the basement. Then when spring finally came I started striping everything off I could, did some body work and painted it. This was a huge learning experience. I did it so in a few years when I have more time, money, and know how I can take it down to the frame and do it "proper"
I painted it with a harbor freight gun and Sherwin Williams middle of the road auto paint. It a 3 footer in some spots and perfect in others.
Now to work on the, way to short OME, leaf springs...
First pic is the day I got it.

Looks nice. I have a thing for that blue color. I am kinda on the same schedule as you. I am enjoying it the first year, then next year is the big teardown.

Looking good. It's a great feeling when you can look at something and say " I did that "

Sweet cruza

I dig the MT cage. Very nice, clean rig.

NIce looking rig,but it's something that happen in the live..or you just wait to buy a Toyota ending the year with the number 4 ..???????

are those amby doors? they almost look like barn doors with an upper amby door top if that makes sense. if it is a half door set up in the rear I would love to see pics as I am thinking about doing something similar with a hard top

Cruzah!

Wow,

Looks pretty nice considering you said you never change oil. Is that air con I see, sweet! Does look like a good job mating the amby tops to the swing out doors.

It must be nice to be able to enjoy it for a while before starting the rest. Just remember when you start get a lot of photos of everything because the manuals are not always that great at the details of installation.

Taking some time is a good for being able to think things through, I dived in and done some U-turns along the way

There are some real experts on here when it comes to all things Cruiser and they have helped a lot. Also the FAQs are excellent for looking through the pro/con of any mods.

I wish I had your roll cage, that looks really nice!

Best of luck and welcome

I usually am not a fan of the white wagon wheels, but they look pretty good on your 40. Nice looking ride, enjoy it.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. It sure is nice to look at it knowing I did it all myself!!
The back doors are ambi doors, not half doors fitted on to ambi tops. It was not fun getting the doors to line up and actually open and close. I ended up having to put a 1/2 inch spacer between the tub and hinge on the lower passenger side hinge so the door would not bang on the tub. You cant see it though since the spare tire covers that hinge. The front doors lined up really nice considering the hardtop is for the newer style doors.
I dont really like the white wheels either, MTrunner. I have a set of 60 wheels in the basement and when I get some money for tires I'm going to put them on. First will be a winch though. Self recovery is key!

Did you have to do any body work to the rear sill to make the ambi doors fit?

Be proud cuz it looks real nice.

Nice truck. The only enjoyment I got out of mine when I first got it was the fun of working on it. It's paid off, now, and using it is the enjoyment. Good plan on the self recovery, by the way. It's nice not having to rely on others. Looks good.
