Ive searched for a few different threads in relation to coil spring rate. Can anybody give me a hand with what I'm looking for fo the rear coils for a four link. Mace suggested TJ springs, which is cool because there is a *&&^ ton of diff. sizes and rates coil dia. and ........ I'll be hitting the wrecking yards this weekend insearch of the elusive rear e-brake disc calipers and hardware and I will also be looking at vehical size and distance between axel and bucket on jeeps, and othe coil sprung vehicals. So any thoughts on what vehicals to hone it down to? Thanks guys

How do I get all these adds off my posts? While i have purchased from these vendors, I most certainly do not endorse these vendores.

Well the Jeep maybe the only thing out there other than 80 series or some later 70 series cruisers. You could use the front springs out of a Ford Bronco, or F-150 from like the 70s-80s, but they might be too heavy and have a lot of variety in different spring specs.

You could also get custom springs made but then you would need to know exactly what your looking for.

Well, I went with stock Cherokee front springs. I'm not overly unimpressed with the height. I can always raise or lower from this point. But the four link articulates great. As I said at the beginning, I'm planning on running 37's. Does anybody have any experience with the H1 beadlocks? I'm thinking of that route with the military Goodyear’s.

With locking down the top....do you have to? I realize that you don't gain alot from letting hang but does it hurt? I would obviously have limiting straps that would protect the shock, but do I have to clamp the spring to the upper spring plate?

Thanks for the responses!

This the overall look, I moved the rear axle forward 2 inches from my original location and it's still pretty far back. It's going to be a bitchen departure angle! I do have a little body work to do....back to harbor freight......

Hey I'm looking for a cage, any thoughts? I would like to purchase a pre bent cage a weld it in. Does anybody have any good co.'s they've used?

If something ever happened where it popped it out of the bucket it would suck for sure. I'm going to bolt mine top and bottom when I get to that step in my build.

Nice work with the suspension. I'm interested to see some flex pics and some trail pics. Are you going to box your center link mounting tabs on the axle?

Yup, I have a ton o finish welding to do. After I have everything mocked up and get it running. I'll blow it apart and and have the frame blasted and painted and have the body painted and while all that happens I'll do the finish welding on the frame and axel. I only get a chance to work on this on the weekends...so maybe 10 hrs a week, pretty slow.

Today I got the stock 08 vortec fuel pump recessed into the stock fj40 tank. It's going to look sweet. I'll post pics soon.

Yup that is the same with me. And mine are an hour away from where I live so progress is extremely slow. It sucks for sure. I just reorganized some things and cleaned off the 80 series mounts off my front axle but that is all for progress.

If I didn't have to move something out of the way everytime I went down to the garage, I'd probably never get any work done on her! If my junk was an hour away it would stil be bone stock original! I'd never get a chance to see it! The fact that it looks me square in the face everyday and screams WORK ON ME is the only way!

Kling-on, thanks for the heads up on the cage, do they come notched or is that on my end?

Updates!!!!!

Ok So it's been a few months....But they haven't been idle. I have the motor fired up! the exhaust in, the cage in, the seats in, the drive rear drive shaft being completes tomorrow????? I'm almost ready for teardown, final welding and frame paint. I'm looking at shocks and shock location. Keeping in mind that I plan to drive this to the trail, I like high speed desert and I want mild to wild crawling....so no big feat right?.? WTF?

Anyway, I've kind of narrowed it down to the bilstein 5150 for the front and I'm not sure what to run in the back. I want about 15" inches of travel.....5 up and 10 down. I'm REALLY trying not to go through the body in the back for shock placement.

I guess my question is how much angle can I put on the shocks and still have them be affective? I've kinda speced out this angel but it looks steep!

2C anyone?

Longtime updates

With some awsome help from dad, the wiring is complete! Painless is bitchen and so is current performance (vortec wiring and comp. flash). You may or may not believe this but we checked and double checked and when we plugged the wiring into 12v, EVERYTHING worked on the first go :bounce:. My dads the Shiz. The truck is in final assembly and I have just finished fabing in the ambo doors. i also went with autometer gauges and reworked the stock panel to fit them. Next is body and paint.

I don't have really good pics along the way but I'll tkae some more comprehensive stuff during the final assembly.

ambo doors

this is how I notched the rear sill. Let me know if I'm on the right track.

For the materials, I used 1/8"x 1 1/2" angel along the bottom. I plasma'd the rear stock sill and set that in. for the watherstrip notch, i used 1/8"x 1/4" angle backed up by 1 1/4"x 1/16" u-channel to pinch the floor sheet metal. Hope that makes sence cus it came out clean and friggen strong.

Might be late, but i have experience with the H1 beadlocks from trailworthyfab;

Great guy to work with, but the turn around was about 2weeks more than I was told. They got here in time to finish the build 'on time' but thats only because i had some waterjet stuff that hadn't been finished yet. Of the 4 rim/tire's i got from him - 3 balanced, one didnt. It got really unbalanced above 55mph, but i could live with it below that. I called him to buy a spare, and he said he would have replaced that rim/tire if i had called him when it first happened and offered to cut me a discount on the spare. The tires arent the best for a lighter vehicle in the mud/snow, but IMO they have good highway manners. Wear like Iron as well, and being able to run with very low PSI makes a ton of difference. I would buck up for the rock ring though, I didnt and wish I did....
