I remember somewhere on here(yes, I searched!)there was some mention that the color of the fan clutch determined if it was an older or newer fan.

Does anyone know what the deal is?

Thanks.

My old one had no coloring just AL.

New one was AL and red.

I think you are thinking of something you read in 80 series tech about the blue/red ones though.

All the ones I have seen have been AL.

Hmm, interesting..I know there was some discussion on here about a blue and red one.

Anyone?

Red indicates heavy duty.......

40s are black in color........lighter duty....

fan clutch

What I'm calling the hub on the OEM fan clutch for the 60 is red, at least the one I bought from Dan at American Toyota.. see pic

Great! Thanks for the picture. That helps a lot.

The one that on my truck right now is red, but not the whole hub, just the flange.

I guess I should change it out since I don't know how old it is and some mechanic said it was bad. It's not attached to any belts right now and i don't know how I'd test it by itself.

My truck was running hot, but they maybe have been some other issue. It'd run past the half way mark even at freeway speeds. It'd get even hotter in traffic.

I'm in the process of doing an intake/exhaust gasket job and I'm also changing out all cooling system hoses, replacing the thermostat and had the radiator rodded out while I was at it.
