Ok guys it is still hot as hades in most places, but the further out we get ideas the better it seems to work out. I am looking to put together the Pisgah to Mitchell ride this year seeing as how it is up here, and I might start scouting out a place to camp on the end of the run! I was wanting to get ideas on when folks were wanting to do this, the leaves have a pretty nice window, and October is the typical month to do this, so toss me some weekend dates (there should only be 4-5 choices) but we'll try to come to a consensus on when to do it, and where to stay. The obvious place to stay is at the mitchell campground, super nice but the spots are limited, the morning view is awesome up there!! Any ways, give me some ideas and we'll iron it out to have a great time up in the NC!!

You could start or end the trip with the Pisgah Inn for a great meal. If ending there you are just moments from Graveyard Fields and Sam's Knob camping areas.

Otherwise if you started out with b'fast at the inn you could end at mitchell and descend Roseboro Rd. to the wilson creek wilderness areas that have several primitive spots along the road as well as the Wilson Ck campground now I believe.

ONSC has the Harlan ride one of the first two weekends in October but other than that im game most any weekend.

3rd week in Oct.
We have always started the ride at Pisgah Inn for lunch.
Then a ride on the BRP to Mt Mitchell (now is the time to set a date and go ahead a reserve a shelter up on Mount Mitchell) Makes for a nice place to build a little fire and hang out. You could then go pretty much anywhere after that for camping. Which I would be up for.

I'd get with JP since he has always planned these events.

Yeah, starting at mitchell is a possibility, but it may be a bit far for a lot of the SC folks that come up, so it might be less than optimal. I don't know where the Wilson Creek campground is, but would be willing to check it out. Last year 1972FJ40 (todd) and I did the ride to mitchell, and went back to Pisgah for camping and eating at the inn. It is a little bit of a ride, but it is at least a nice ride, you get to see some things on the way back that you miss on the way up, so that might be an option as well.

I think I will get up with JP and get some ideas, I will try to get up with the folks up at mitchell to see about getting one of the shelters this week. I was thinking either the 16th of Oct or the 23rd of Oct, I figure nobody wants to camp on the 30th especially if they have kids and will want to do the halloween thing instead of camping.
If anyone has a preference on the dates provided let me know...

I prefer the 16th as a scouting event on the 23rd would cause me to miss this ride for the fourth year in a row.

edit: work threw a curve. I'm out...again. :mad:Y'all have fun.

I am in! I am down for doing the 16th as well.

I had planned on camping both nights. First night at the Ivestor Gap 4x4 trail in the Black Balsam area; Then somewhere around Mount Mitchell for the second night......

Jay lets get together and hash out the detials so everyone start making plans to be there.

looking forward to this!

I won't be down for the 16th. With the Clemson game on the 2nd, and the Boil on the 9th I will need that weekend to recharge. I might be able to make it on the 23rd though.

What are the coord. for the possible meet up point? Need to see how far away from me it is.

Jeremy

Definitely JP, give me a call (828) 216-2017, or e-mail me jay.conkin@gmail.com and we'll get it all done and done...

Sounds like fun!

Oct 16 is the only w/e I have open, so I've penciled that in for if that's what ya'll settle on.

That would make three consecutive w/e's with the cruiser losers; CU/U game, LC Boil then BRP. Then maybe another dose at Moogfest the end of the month in A'ville. Whew! Making up for lost time, what?

After one of the BRP rides we camped right down the road from Mt Mitchell at a public campground that was very nice. Don't remember the name.

I'm seriously looking into this moogfest, I wanna see devo... That would rock... Crack that whip!!!

I didn't mean to start a hijack.
Please refer Moogfest comments to thread "Asheville Camping, Halloween Weekend".
I go there now for a bump and comments on Devo etc. . . Jay and Josh please jump in

As my momma used to say: "Everyone to his own taste said the old lady as she kissed the cow."

Soooooo . . . back on task.
How about referencing the re-bumped Black Balsam thread and let's get something going for Sept 16 weekend.

And leave Moogfest to anyone who wants it. There's a thread for that under Halloween camping etc. or something like that.
