Hi Folks,
I'm new to the forum and have been lurking and searching the archives for the past few weeks. There is a wealth of information up here! Thanks for sharing this.
I have a 1993 FZJ80 with cloth interior, lockers and a block heater. It came from Montana and I've been slowly performing all of the necessary services to bring it into tiptop shape. (I'm from Atlanta, GA) It has 143k miles on it and runs well.
My first question is about a faint squeal I hear after I shift the transmission into reverse. It sounds similar to the intermittent squeal you'd hear from wheel bearings but much fainter. Has anyone experienced this same noise in reverse? Once I shift out of reverse, the noise goes away. It's sort of a pulsing squeal that is steady whether the car is stationary or moving backwards. ( it is very faint/quiet)
I had the transmission serviced at the Toyota dealership and it didn't make a difference. I also added some Lubegard red label to see if it would loosen things up a little to no avail.
Any advice on what it might be? I'm not ready to take it to a transmission place since I know what their suggestion will be...
Thanks again for the great information on the site! I searched for this problem but didn't find anything.
