If that's a mechanical gauge, you don't need the ground wire.

I'd rotate the assy a bit so the sensor feed does not rub on the hood insulation, if that's how I'm seeing your set up, but pic is a little wonky.

I don’t have hood insulation. Just a coat of lizard skin.
but I will check that.........
 
that’s a nice pod. I didn’t know how I wanted to attach it yet. Just figured I would watch this a while and see what it does.


i know enough about the dash layout of a 60 to simply say , your initial instinct to locate it where u did will be its long term home for life ...........


anywhere else would simply be ...............uncivilized TEq
 
Well, the top radiator hose is where the Coolant is going to circulate best and it will read the temp right out of engine. The heater hose will not circulate coolant unless the valve is open. Either will tell you what you need to know.
