I am interested in replacing everything from the manifolds back. My system is not in very good shape at all. The PO put a Magnaflow muffler after the stock cats and then butchered up the tailpipe adding a resonator because it was too loud. I do not want it loud or rasspy sounding. I was thinking of doing a 2 into 1 (3") through a single 3" high flow converter and a 3" high flow muffler of some kind. I have used a GM pickup muffler for an 8.1L engine and it sounded good on a V8. What have ya'll done with yours. Pics? Dual converters or one? Visual emissions is not a factor here also.

Gary,

Mark Brodis did a nice job on his LX. He's using one cat and had the muffler shop turn the pipe to go over the frame rail and then go straight back on the inside. Well protected but the sound of the muffler is subjective. Maybe he can chime in?

On another note, is Kelly agreeable to all this? :D

I put a Magnaflow under my 94 80. I like the sound of it. At freeway speeds I can hardly tell that it is there. It has a nice mid to low pitch rumble. I had a Flowmaster on a previous 80 and it was way to loud for my liking, especially at freeway speeds. I put a resonator in to quiet it down but that didn't do much.

I believe that Safado has a Borla exhaust system and that sounds like an old musclecar to me. very very nice.

I like the sound of the Borla. Not obnoxious, but a little bit of rumble.

Well I've got a magnaflow and it resonates like hell at higway speeds and on grades. Anything above 2200RPM is annoying. I plan on changing it out as soon as I can find an excuse.

Sounds a little 'rice' for my tastes but it IS an inline 6 after all. Too 'brappy' and not throaty enough. Borla sounds a lot better IMHO.

From The cats back I did a borla. The sound is a little differtent than stock. The performance (in seat of the pants units) is much better. I was amazed.

I have a Magnaflow on my '94 FZJ80. At highway speeds, it's quiet. Cruising through ctity streets, it's throaty but in a subdued way. Not overpowering at all in terms of sound.

Nice small power kick at top end freeway speeds. So the PO says. Don't know what stock felt like.

Gotta Borla here. The main reason I got it was because the "can" diameter is smaller and I kept hitting my stock muffler on rocks and such. I have barely grazed the Borla once. It is a bit of a drone but I like it. It sounds kind of like an old E-Type Jag.

It really sings at 4,900 RPM WOT in low range first gear slogging through a couple feet of snow....:D

I like the Borla but I dont like the tail pipe. I will probably just go custom. most likely 3" through a single cat, big quiet muffler, and then out in a suitable, offroadable, place. I won't be cheap though.

Got the safari 3" stainless on mine and like the sound and performance. Also it is bent to go over the frame rail so no danger of damage from rocks and the like. Course alot of the time I can't really hear the exhaust due to the whine of the TURBO. :D
