My tail pipe rusted completely through just behing the rear wheel.
When I unbolted the last pipe hanger the end of the pipe came right off.
The pics show you what I am left with.
I know some of you have re-routed your exhasut to exit behing the rear wheel. Most of you, however, have a bend at the end that points the exhaust out from under the truck. My exhaust, on the other hand, is cut striaght off under the truck.

Is this safe, o.k., or something I need to take care of. A new cat-back exhaust (most likely OEM) will be going on in a few months. What do you think?

Also a pick of the kids helping me rotate the tires.

enjoy

If your muffler is not rusted through I would get a new tail pipe welded on that clears the body of the vehicle.

Howdy! I would just cut the end off square, then add a 90 degree elbow, available at most parts stores. Finish it off with a tip of your choice, unfortunately, most are chrome. I did mine with a 45 degree end that points towards the ground. That should get your exhaust out past the tire, and away from those kids. John

After tearing mine off on the trail, I put a 45* after the muffler and before the rear axel pointing at the ground.

Yep.....That is just enough to keep the stink away from the passengers in the back:beer:

If you leave it at that length, it might promote rust in your quarter.

I dont get the "point it at the ground part". If you wheel it, that just puts it that much farther in harms way. You will need to get it out from under the truck so you dont fill it up with fumes.

Probably means aim it out from under the rig to the side, but point the angled tip downward. My pipes are horizontal where they exit in front of the rears, but I added a set of extention tips that are cut at a 45 degree angle at the end. John

Not to hijack... but has anyone cut the exhaust behind the cat, eliminated the muffler and made a single side pipe?

this is how i did mine and i dont have any fumes.

its out of harms way and still exits out from under the rig.

Cruisin do you have a cat? I didn't think there was enough room for the muffler behind the cat and come out that far up.
