I've got an 94 Fj, with no cat on running 3" pipe back to a magnaflow muffler. It sounds like crap. I know the cat also acts like a ressonator and im sure thats why it sounds like a rice rocket with out one on there. Any advice on what kind of muffler to run? to keep from getting rasy and poping when i step on it? Big flowmaster 70 series?, add a ressonator? It's so annoying that i haven't driven the truck since.

Thanks

i thought the f/m 70 was for bigger moters than a 40 f/m. can some1 please elaborate this?

70's have more chambers than a 40. IMO... the 40's resonate pretty badly into the cabin on the freeway. It get's kind of anoying on a long trip if that's not your thing. 70's are better but still a little on the anoying side for my taste. I had tried a half dozen mufflers on my 71 Bronco before I recently put an 05-ish dodge hemi pickup takeoff on her. Great sound without being loud, and no funky resonance on the road. Got the whole stainless cat-back out of the dumpster of a mufler shop for 20 bones. A little cutting and welding and I was able to do the whole exhaust from the y pipe back in dodge 3" stainless. Gimme a hooray for dumpster diving...

My 80 had an aftermarket muffler on it when I bought it.
It sounds throaty and tough--no rasp or rice.
Resonates a little in the cab on the freeway.

I haven't been able to find out what muffler it is. No brand markings on it that I can find. Anyone know how to ID a muffler?

i have staight pipes wit a magnaflow also if you buy a resonator it isnt as bad

The 70 series flowmaster won't help. I finally added a 12" muffler at the back to act as a resonator. Still not great, but at least livable, and the rice rocket guys quit waving at me.

I've all but had it with more Borla. They can build this thing to go over and under s*** but provide an accurate hanger that will line up properly and not break off, forget it.

My next exhaust will most likely be back to OEM.

That's my complaint with them too. With the tolerance of the FJ's, they should only need to fit it once and mass produce it to that spec...but NO. My kit was way off on every mounting point. I'd rather they send the hangers and let a shop weld them on. Funny, I wrote them three complaints and never recieved as much as a #$&^ off. I'd still just buy the kit and have it hung by a shop.

Where can someone get an OEM exhaust without going to the dealer.???

CDan!

Getting your exhaust to sound better is easy. Just a single 3" mandrel bent system. Straight out the turbo, no muffler and out to the back.

Wait a second, you guys don't get turbo diesels do you.:flipoff2:
My condolences.

I'd love to listen to an unmufflered Diesel every day.
