Hello All,

Just want to introduce myself to the group and share the purchase of my dream vehicle.

After 12 years of causally looking for a stock FJ40 I found one within 2 miles of my house. It is even the color I wanted! This is not my first Land Cruiser. My first was a 1964 FJ45 Wagon, which I sold abut 10 years ago.

Over the next 15 years, I will be restoring the FJ40 and keeping it stock much as possible.

I look forward to future communications as I have never restored a vehicle; just regular O&M. And thanks for all the existing posts. I have a lot of searching to do!

Below is a photo and additional photos are located on my photo gallery at:

Thanks again,
Andrew

Congrats on the find, even better its close.

I have a similar story with my 75. I allways wanted one, but as a poor grad student could never find one in good condition that i could afford (i did enough resto work on my 67 mustang that i knew i didnt want to do it again). When i was up in canada this past summer fly fishing for salmon my guide (a close family friend of my fiance) told me he had one, and sold it to me super cheap...even my favorite color.

Cool rig looks just like my 72 when i got it even the same color. good luck on the work ahead.

Welcome to Mud! Nice looking truck you have there. I like that you have realistic time schedule for your build( over the next 15 yrs). You will find many on this forum that have been at it for many years over and over. Good luck and keep us updated.

paint

looks really good ---the value of taking your time eh?

A little rubbing compound and a wax job would bring that paint up a treat I bet!

Are those brackets from plow duty?

More pics? How's the inside and underneath

Real nice... reminds me of my first; a '74. Best of luck with the restore. Take your time and don't settle for anything you're not going to be completely satisfied with. One idea: put on paper what you want to do with this rig, then stick to it and document it. If you find yourself being lured by the big tire/big engine etc set, that's fine too, but find another rig to do it on. Stick to the plan on this one!

Nice score, and welcome to Mud your at the right place.

Washed and waxed Sunday afternoon. The green shined right up. I will post more pics of it clean soon.

You mentioned more pics....did you visit my photo gallery referenced above. Go here: 1972-73 Toyota Fj40.

In reference to the plow, I do not know what the brackets on the front bumper were for. I removed them; once was broken.

Congrats on the great find and welcome to Mud. Did you know the rig had been that close for awhile?

I agree that the brackets in front look like they are a hi-lift.

Please post up another post polish pic.

alkarich:

The Fj40 appeared on a Tuesday and was up for sale on Thursday. Made an offer on Friday morning and a week later finally heard back from the owner. Accepted my offer. It is rumored that it sat for two years.

It was great that I only had to drive it 2 miles to my house.

Nice year, nice color, nice name...

Bit of an outdated picture, but you get the idea.
The knowledge here is amazing, and if you can't find your answer searching someone always knows the answer.
Cheers!
Andrew

Sweet! pretty good shape, considering. Keep us all posted, I'd love to see how well your rig cleans up.
if you're feeling saucey enough, would you mind posting some pics of the engine compartment and interior?
