I did a search on this, and it may not even be a problem, could be my imagination... But when I start the engine in the newly aquired 80, it takes a second to start... literally about a second.. Turn the key, hold it for one second (its quite long if you think about it..) Before the engine kicks on.

Now, Maybe I am just used to the bmw. the engine would kick on after about two turnovers.

The Cruiser takes.. 5 or 6 turnovers or so? Just guessing... I keep letting go of the key before the engine fully starts on accident because im not used to the time it takes for it to start. I am assuming this is just a characteristic of this vehicle, engine, trucks in general? But I figured id ask.. Also, I may be exagerrating a bit talking about milliseconds, but Im trying to give perspective..

Is that normal? I did a search, but of course I've got the oddball question to ask. :)

I think we discussed this awhile back, and it may be a delay designed into the engine to let the oil pressure come up in the timing chain tensioner before hitting full RPM.....
But I could be mistaken...

Hey thanks! yeah im pretty much used to it by now.. but Its just long enough for me to think for a fraction of a second "oh my engines not gonna start..."

But then again, Im new to these!

I'm new to my 80, to me it seems to take one crank more than I expect as well, sometimes I let the key come back before the engine has started. It seems to be consistent though.
