I have a 66 FJ40 and I want to swap out my drive train completely. I am looking for a good combination Engine/Trans/Transfer case. I want to spend around 4-5k on the drive train and would really appreciate suggestions and opinions on what I should go with. I would mostly be using the vehicle as a daily driver/ weekend mudder. I would also like to know problems that anyone has encountered while doing this kind of swap and if there is anyone around Lafayette Louisiana that would possibly help me out .

Thanks

Hi All:

Sorry Jim - no disrespect, but I gotta disagree with you on this one.

He mentioned using the rig as a daily driver and a weekend mudder.

For all-around driveability a fuel injected engine and auto trans would be nice. Since he is willing to spend $5K a GM Vortec 5.3L with like a 700R4 and a 3.0 Orion would be pretty sweet.

Just a thought . . . . . . :D

Regards,

Alan

81-87 2F engine.
81-83 H41 4spd.
Split case w/ USA gears.
3.70 diffs.

81-later frt disc brake swap.
Some kinda rear axle disc parking brake setup.

I completely agree with Jim on this for three reasons:

1. It's a proven combo in the FJ60, which is a DD for MANY people.
2. It's a cheaper, SIMPLER option than a vortec auto conversion, which means...
3. It's MUCH MORE LIKELY TO GET DONE before the owner runs out of steam!

Best

Mark
