Time for a new engine in the 100, blew it out in ouray. Wondering if anyone has went the tundra/sequoia route and did a successful swap by swapping the oil pan, mounts, exhaust manifolds and some of the front accessories. Was anything else involved? Reason I ask is tundra engines are everywhere for cheap, with relatively low mileage. If it didn't work out, let me know why

How did you kill a 2UZ? Overheat?
Valve covers and rear main pissing oil, topped it up frequently instead maintaining properly, got stuck i. The middle of nowhere with no oil and slung a rod/locked it up good. Lesson learned lol.

Possible bent rod as well, I'll have to take a look after I pull it out and assess the damage

Hey there! I commented on your Facebook post too, but double-tapping it here. Several of us have taken non-LC/LX engines and put them in our cruisers. Upper/lower oil pans, oil coolers, exhaust manifolds, and wiring harnesses just need to be swapped over. Pretty straight forward in the grand scheme of things.

I bought my LX with a blown engine (see thread in signature). The engine I found to put in it was a zero-mile engine out of a tech school that I tore down and then rebuilt from the bare block up using the FSM. Based on the wiring harness part number, I believe it was originally destined for a 2 wheel drive Sequoia.

Don't just buy any engine. Seller lie. Do your homework, starting with VIN # on BK2 head and a carfax. Scope the cylinders.

Year matters. The 100 series 2006-07, Toyota changes to the 2UZ-fe VVT engine. If not VVT, hunt for non VVT 4.7L 2UZ-fe. 98-99 have a weak throttle body. 03-05 the throttle body changed.

Basically all Toyota & Lexus 4.7L 2UZ-fe long block (block and heads) are all the same, before VVT.

VVT: 2UZ-fe VVT long block, in all Toyota & Lexus, are all the same.

They changed the piston and heads in the VVT. In addition to Intake, exhaust man, added S.A.I. changed the CAT, used A/F sensor, different o2, wire harness variation and ECU.

The Japanese made engine, is considered better, than USA made. The USA made 2UZ, had high incidence of rod knock.
