Another quick question. What was the factory color on these engine crank handles? Black?

Jason-

I've just had a quick look at three tray-back Cruiser, 1978, 82 ,83 all have the same type of clips in the cab for mounting tools, crank handle etc.

Scanned MC and here's what I came up with....

Black plastic. Not sure if the plastic will be strong enough for how heavy the crank rod is but the holes on this are 3/4" apart which is what the screws on my 40 appear to be spaced.

Black nylon coated steel. These could be doubled up to use all 6 mounting holes and for additional holding strength.

Well that was fast. McMaster Carr doesn't mess around! I didn't test them out in my 40. The screws are directly under the ridge of the tub so my nice JIS Vessel screwdrivers won't fit straight up and down on top of them. I assume these screws haven't been touched in 40 years so I'll have to work them out carefully. I did check that the 2 metal clips will fit a pair side by side. Also, while the plastic clip does fit the handle it probably isn't strong enough for the application. I'll probably go with the coated metal clips.
