Engine color recommendations

I am about ready to assemble my engine, and I see all of the ugly rust on the oil pan, valve cover, pushrod cover, manifolds, etc. and I think about what would look great in my black engine bay? I have applied black undercoating on the underside of the hood, the inner fenders, and the firewall. I hate to go with black on the engine with all of the black that is in the engine compartment.

What do you suggest? Orange, red? Blue is definitely out.

A guy runs a powder coating shop next to my church office, and I was looking at his work yesterday. Looks great. So I am thinking, I am going with that! I just need the color.

I was searching for a high temp match to Freeborn Red for the block, in keeping with Jim Cs method of red indicating it's been bored.

Think the general opinion was "that's just ghey". Haha.

Trollhole's "Black 2F" and the coating done by ACC/Smoking Gun which is in your neighborhood.

In conversation with Mike at ACC regarding another matter, I asked about PC and the general prices he quoted were very reasonable, considering the expense (assuming outsourced. Realize you have a blast cabinet) of blasting and prepping.

I don't know if the numbers he gave were a two part, like what was done in pic, but considering shipping there and back, I don't think I could do, be it local PC or local blasting and me rattle canning the correct OE colors, for similar money.

Plus, they know what should be coated, what shouldn't be, and what colors if OE-ish is desired.

I actually like the silver and black on the photo above. It gives some contrast. Of course the freeborn red would liven things up a bit, too.

I am going to take him the pieces, except the head and block, and see what the charge would be. I think he is actually quite reasonable. He quoted me $75 on the tailgate arms, covers, etc. I am thinking about doing all of the engine pieces and manifolds. maybe the door handles, latches, and other hardware too. I just have to have a color in mind.

I have been influenced by my long gone Midget. I am partial to a nice medium olive drab. Machine grey would also be a good color. I might have done something a bit lighter than black in the engine bay, as it can already be a dismal affair if spending much time down there...FWIW, I am running my 2.25F in the black with the natural colored valve cover, olive bell housing trans and transfer front half...

battleship gray.....that certainly has an industrial feel and look to it. It cleans up nice, too. I will look and see what colors are close to that in the powder coating.

Yes.
I paid for a rebuild on the 2F in my 40 and they painted it black. I didn't think much about the color until I realized I had an oil leak...

From now on, any rebuild will go light gray. I would keep the factory white in our engine compartment b/c it is factory, and also for leak detection.

I'm thinking of, at least, a Freeborn Red head on the oddball 2F build......so I can call it a red headed stepchild of an engine.

Seriously, debating part of it being Freeborn Red, just unsure what parts.
