Anyone with an LX (softer suspension) had the flange for the rear differential rub on the exhaust piping?? I got under my car to do the oil change and lube the U-Joints when i noticed this..... this is not good at all. Looks like not enough clearance was put into the design.

Did you not get the exhaust in stainless? You ma have to loosen the rear piping and rotate the pipes to get the clearance you need. Is that a possibility?

A failure would be a fire, explosion, rusting through, or the exhaust falling off. This thread gives EMS a bad name from people that just surf through the 100 Series tech and don't open it. There are MANY people running EMS exhuast without issues, if you installed it yourself, I would not call it a EMS failure, I would call it a installation failure...

I would call them first, or loosen the pipes up and reposition them...I'm not trying to be rude, but if somebody installed my lights incorrectly and said it failed publicly, before contacting me, well...I would not be too happy.

Looks like it wasn't set up right before you tightened it up. I had to adjust it including the position on the brackets before tightening it down.

I concur

I got mine ceramic coated. No, rotation is not a possibility. Not on that section as it is welded straight to the muffler. The parts after the clamp rotate, but the section that is welded to the muffler cannot.

That would be far too easy John.

Are you pretending to know something about me? That is very presumptuous of you. If you cannot give a response to my original question, then don't post in my thread. period.

Yes, I sent them an email.

I did not launch a hate thread against them, I was simply asking a question. It's possible I got a defective system, and I wanted to gauge the public.

Maybe I chose poorly on the title

Once again, that part of the exhaust cannot be "adjusted". Please understand the exhaust system in question, and where the joints are before you telling me I installed it incorrectly. Not only is there a clearance issue, but the exhaust is also only about 1" from the frame of my vehicle. If it is such a close fit to getting it right then there should be instructions for such care. Like, "insure exhaust pipe is only .25" from the frame of your vehicle".

Technically, even if something got screwed up in their welding jig, it is a failure.

Fit, Form, & Function my friends. This is NOT a hate on EMS thread.

Now please keep this thread on topic. The pipe THERE cannot be adjusted. And I cannot move it UP much more anyway before it hit the frame of the vehicle.

Also for reference, the reason I am asking other LX owners to check their vehicles is because they have a softer suspension and maybe the LC guys wouldn't ever see this type of issue.

Looks like it wasn't set up right before you tightened it up. I had to adjust it including the position on the brackets before tightening it down.

My install went pretty smooth. Started forward and worked my way backwards without any major issues connecting the pieces.

You say it doesn't look right, can you be more specific.....? Maybe show me a picture of how yours looks different? That would be a tremendous help.

Ill do that when I get home tonight and snap a few pictures. I do recall adjusting the location of the muffler and the piping to maintain clearance in that area. Have you tried lossening all 3 brackets and trying to move the muffler forward. Lokks like there is rrom based on the location of the bar in the rubber gromet for the muffler and then the whole assembly to move forward. Mine is all shiny and stainless, what is different about yours?

I do agree on the instructions and posted the same comment in my review.

i don't think others were trying to bash you. It is just a fopaw to slam a vendor in a title without working through the issue and it hasnt failed, you have a rubbing issue.

This is a pic froma nother angle that doesnt address your issue of someone elses install, maybe it will help in the meantime

A local shop installed the ems exhaust. They were very worried about the clearance on the diff. They commented that maybe this should only be for a lifted vehicle. I called ems but never heard back.

xirforever, Just responded to your email. Let me know when you get a chance to get those measurements.

tarpaigh, sorry about that, we've been slammed lately, give us a ring today, I'm here all day and trying my best to get to all the calls.

The exhaust is build for a 100% stock 100 series. We tested it on a 100 series with normal suspension, and on a 100 series with the automatic suspension. Loaded them down with plenty of weight and to get the suspension to squat as much as possible and checked all clearances. The 1 case I've seen that was making contact with the exhaust is where a 100-series with automatic suspension had some faulty components that were making the suspension sag much more than normal. Apart from that one case, the exhaust has been fitting quite well on everyone's 100 series that I've heard of. We are always improving our products batch after batch, so if there is in fact an issue we will get it fixed asap.

Got you covered, measurements sent!

I will see how much play there is in the muffler moving forward and if I will get other issues, but I recall there not being a whole lot of play when it was all together before i tightened it all down. It seemed like it when together one way if you wanted it to all bolt up together well. Ill see if i can shoot some extra photos with a real camera, the iphone didn't do so well.

Mine is stainless, but i paid for the ceramic coating as well so that's why it looks different.

Thank you for your response!

here are a couple of pics. It looks like the diff breather tube is touching, but its not. I moved the bracket up so it would not.

I do have a 2.5" OME lift there, more like 2" with all the weight I have in the back

Romer, can you take a picture with a tape measure like I have in the photo attached to this post? Mine looks pretty darn close. Also, in your signature you say your vehicle is lifted, so your measurement will be what the gap is minus your lift height (right?)

The rest of the photos show better what I am working with. You can see the rubber hangers are not stretched down farther than they should be.

The ome 2.5" but I have a rear bumper and ARB drawers filled with tools and parts so I doubt I get the full lift

If it was an old exhaust with that problem, I would just stick a crowbar in there to get the clearance, but its new so you should get EMS involved

Maybe they can swap your muffler for one with a bit bigger bend there

I will snap a few photos of the same measurement with my suspension in the High mode for comparison. Honestly though my exhaust placement looks identical to yours when you consider you have a lift. It looks like I have a little over an inch of clearance and you have a little under 2" of clearance with a lift. With my suspension being much softer than yours, it will probably compress more when going over speed bumps, intersections that dip down a lot, and anywhere other scenario where the entire rear end will compress at once. I have just confirmed with EMS that I have no sag (not sure the significance of sag in this situation) and I am waiting to hear what else they would like me to inspect or do. They have been very responsive so I'm expecting more direction sometime today.
